    tinted windows that are 20%
i have 20% tint all the way around right now on my access cab tacoma. I was wondering if i put 15% over that how dark would my windows be. I went to a tint place and i said i wanted it close to 5%. So they said 15% would be the way to go. I am not sure. I would like some help on this.

Better to scrape off what's currently on there and just get 5%.

our front windows have a factory 80% up front, so if the OP did that they would have to put 10% on to equal out to about 6%

Well i just did 15% over the 20% and it definetly isnt 4% over lower, its more like 8% or higher. Idk maybe just have to give it time to settle in.

See the way to think of this is that the 20% will let only 20% of light through. Putting 15% over the top of that theoretically will only allow 15% of the initial 20% through. Of course there will be a little distortion there... Math says that you should have a 3% tint after that. The fact that tint is not perfect says that you will experience a tint level of probably around 5-7%

Thanks man! i really appreciate that. That does help, i think it looks around 5-8%. I was just wondering b/c it was getting layered over and a friend looked at it and said it was 13%, which is impossible considering it is 15% over 20%.

I have 5% tint over the stock tint in the rear doors and back window, and 27% over the stock tint in the front doors. I never had them tint-check it after putting it on.
Maybe I should :p Don't want to get below the legal limit of 27% here in SC.

To get a rough estimate, you just multiply the percentages as decimals. As stated before: .15 (15%) multiplied by the current .2 (20%) yields .03 or 3%. Now this isn't perfect at all, but close.

I have 2 layers of 20% on the front windows, and 20% tint laid over the factory 20% glass, and using a meter my tint is at 3% even though mathematically it should be at 4%.

O tru. Do u work at the firestation, where they are doing all that construction next to I-95? Also, I figured i would do lower than 27% because, some many people in florence and surrounding areas have it that way. I know just a few that have gotten tickets, but not many. I had 27% on my camaro, and it was decent but i like my tint now, i really like the darkness and how much cooler it stays inside!
