Skid plate question

I bought the Toyota skid plate. I'm the directions it says to leave the black metal piece there and put skid plate on top. It just doesn't look right. Did everyone take theirs off or leave it on as the directions state?

 

I left the stock one on.They overlap.

they tell you to leave the stock one on cause its going to be the actual protection. The trd skid is for looks, the black one is for protection. You will be removing the trd skid after a couple off road adventures like everyone else.... most likely anyways.

 

I took mine off maybe I should put it back on....crap!!

 

I took my black skid plate off, like you said it just doesn't look right.

 

I'm not even going to lie about be an off-roading enthusiast. I live outsid if Philly. I just like how the skid plate looks. With that being said, do you guys think that there would be that much of a risk rolling around without the black oem on underneath?

 

^^I don't think so, I've been doing that for about 3 years and no problems. Although many will say the TRD skid plate is weak, it is bigger and built more sturdy than the OEM.
