How much involved in Tundra axle conversion?

I am thinking that I would like to install a complete '08 Tundra rear end with disc brakes in my '08. The only major problem I can foresee would be having new holes drilled and tapped for 6 wheel studs. Of course I would also have to have a new slip-yoke drive shaft to connect from Taco tranny to Tundra axle. The reason for doing this is I'm going to go LT and want to get prepared for it. This would increase the track in the rear by 4" while giving me a much stronger rear end as well as superior stopping power with disc brakes.

Has anyone done this or considered it? Any input, suggestions welcomed.

 

i don't think the disc brakes will help that much but hte track increase will help stability. Especialy if your gonna push as hard as most Lt guys do.

 

If that's the case, then I could just bolt up the drum brakes from my Taco if they'll fit. If not, I could find a set of 00-06 Tundra drums.

Knightryder has done it to his truck, you can read what he has done in his build thread.

 

I believe he used an older rear end on his build. I'm talking about using an '08 Tundra disc brake rear end.

What kind of set up are you gonna do? 4-link, 3-link, or Spring Under set-up??

If you want disc brakes in the back find a rear axle from a 03-09 4runner or one from a fj since its the same rear end.

Or why not get a curry rear end?

 

You mean swap out the disc brake hubs for the '08 for '00-'06 drum brake setup?

 

How do you get the 05 Tacoma e-brake cable to work on 07 Tundra axle?
