Hey members, I have a 2010 doublecab 4x4 offroad and been noticing lately that when I have my ac on and coming to a complete stop withing a few second I feel a good kick like someone from behind with their car just tap me. It's not the usual nudge when the ac kicks in. I've been noticing it more often now. The only way I can describe it is like someone hitting you from behind with your foot firmly on the brake. Even a buddy of mine looked at me when it happen and he immediately turn around to look back to see if a car did hit us but the car was not even close. Any idea?

I have an 09 that does the same thing. I think everyone's does. It's no good for sure but I dont think there's a 'fix'. Some guys pop their truck into neutral. I just press harder on the brake during the summer months.

When the ac kicks on the engine rpm gets kicked up a bit causing you to lurch forward a little bit. When you have the ac on just put your foot a little farther on the brake when at a light.

I thought this was normal for all vehicles? RPMs go up when the compressor kicks on?

the rpm's get bumped up in my '06 trd OR 6 speed manual but maybe I don't feel it nudge my truck forward cause I either have the brake pressed down firmly, clutch pushed in, or in neutral...either way that's a a/c pump doing its job...

The lurch feeling you guys are getting when the ac is on and the brakes are full on comes from compressor clutch engaging its a normal condition and there is nothing you do about it. I work for a Toyota dealer in central NY and we get customers with same concern we basically tell the same thing as I just told you guys. :D

I've always felt the nudge or lurch since I got it new. But this is different. Started a few days back. Happen one time for the day then a few days later one more time then today twice. And I do notice the ac was not on or kicked on yet. So I ruled out the ac running when that happen. Wierd.

If its still lurching without the ac on I think maybe you should go back to the dealer and find out what say. :(

My 05 don't do this. Seems like the newer the Tacoma's get the more crap is wrong with them.

LOL...you should see the look on my passenger face when that kick happen. They look back immediately to see if someone hit us. It`s not a lurking feeling but more like shit did someone hit me kind of movement. You can hear something pop or thunk. Kind of embarrassing having to explain it to them that it is normal and of course everyone I explain it to don`t think it is normal because that is not the usual nudge that most people feel when the ac comes on.

Maybe if you are on the brakes hard it's a little bit of axle wrap when the rpms kick up.

I've always had it. Personally, I think it's completely ridiculous for a vehicle to feel like I just got rearended but whatever, it's normal. I've never had anther vehicle in the dozens I've owned do this, though.

It actually bothered the hell out of me at first, now I don't notice it at all. Not sure if it even does it anymore, maybe it only did it until the brakes got broken in or something.

My '07 4Runner does it. Wham. I look in the rearview and nobody's there. I don't think it's the AC either.
I haven't noticed it in the Tacoma... yet.
