oil filter wrench

I know this has probably been asked and answered a lot already. What is a good oil filter wrench for the oil filters on the 4 cylinders? 90915-yzzg1 it says to use the SST special service tool but that is about 45 bucks. I have heard the original oil filters are very hard to untighten so I want a good wrench that grips good....Thanks

 

I always use a large set of water pump pliers to take it off and put it on as tight as i can by hand.

 

I got one from Napa auto parts. You use a ratchet on the end. Holds good and tight.

 

Hand tight with a 1/4 twist more, should never need a filter wrench and it doesn't leak.

 

He's talking about the factory installed OEM filter. We all know one that one is damn near impossible to get off without some assistance.

 

I got mine from the dealership. It's an "imperial" brand and fits the oem filter perfectly. I think it cost around $10.

 

Yes, that is what I am talking about the oem filter. That thing with the three "fingers" looks like it would work but will you have plenty of room on the 4 cylinders to get that thing up and on the filter?

 

I've had good luck with the woven strap type. The one with the square tubing that fits onto a 1/2" drive ratchet. Just tightens down onto the filter and screws the filter right off.

 

My favorite too. I use an adjustable wrench on the outside of the tube instead.

 

I got a big set of channel locks. Works for the filter and I can use it for other things.

 

I use one like this...I can't remember if it I got it at Harbor Freight or Walmart.

 

That's a one-time then...

The screw driver through the can trick works every time...a little messy, but it is a one timer.

 

just use the big-ass flathead screwdriver and hammer method. works everytime, just a little messy. super easy tho. and when you put your next filter on don't animal tighten it like everyone else said. hand tighten is more than enough.

Yup. Funny, that's exactly what I ended up doing.

 

hand tight and shouldnt need a wrench?

 

I used the screwdriver method once can't even remember what is was, thing was so tight that the screwdriver actually tore through the metal like ripping through a tin can almaost ran out of intact metal before I could get the durn thing lose.

 

I use one of these.

 

haha yah i remember when i did it the hole was pretty big...stupid filter from the factory was so damn tight....
