My maint light came on about a week ago and has stayed on. My truck is brand new with only 5000 miles. What could have set this off? Tried disconnecting the battery to reset it but did not work.

for those just seeing this thread, you can reset the maint reqd/oil change reminder light with this:

    1. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown (For details, see "Odometer and two trip meters" on page 143 in this Section.)
    2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter knob.

Hold the knob for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off.

Yeah it means time for an oil change. Toyota made those to automatically pop up every 5000 miles no matter what. Just giving you confirmation haha

Not really every 5000 miles....Just 5000 miles after you reset. If you don't reset it- the light will be on forever.
