Gonna have to try this, can't decide if I should go silver/black or red/black.I'm on a mission to do "a mod a month" since I bought the truck in April. So far I'm waaay ahead of my goal.

Looks great guys! Ive done a couple of engine valve covers myself and they turned out really good but this time its different since I got my Taco and instead of metal im working on plastic. I have a few questions i was wondering if you guys knew.

    - How does the paint do under the heat conditions?

    - how hot does the engine cover get?

    - Did you guys all just use normal spray after the adhesive primer? Like duplicolor?

    - How has your paint jobs help up till now?

I guess im just a little worried about the quality because i want it to last for years and i want to do it right the 1st time. I Will be painting mine white pretty soon because i have a white taco so i will post pics once its done!

I wouldn't mind trying this, in the Spring.

How about some tips on how you painted the lettering / symbol ??

On mine I just used a Duplicolor paint pen that I picked up at AutoZone. Worked just fine.

This is the engine bay of my Honda Ridgeline, that I traded in for the Taco.

I plan on doing similar to the Taco come spring when it is warm enough to paint.

I wanted to paint my engine cover and I found the Duplicolor Paint in blue. However Advanced auto said this paint is not flame proof or heat resistant. Is there any paint for my engine cover that is heat resistant as well as the clear coat. Does that really matter?

My guess is the engine cover will melt before it's a issue.

I was told to be sure I use high heat paint but the main recommendation I see on this thread is to make sure you prep well and use primer/paint that adheres to plastics. I like that idea because there are a lot more color possibilities. Has anyone had any heat related issues? Has anyone used Krylon any surface paint?

Did mine with regular Rust-Oleum paint. Been on a little over a week and have had no trouble with heat on the paint.IMG_20190901_173634811.jpg

The cover gets warm, but if your getting hot enough to effect it your engine is most likely toast. I used regular krylon paint. 3-4 yrs and all is good

Thanks. The cover has heat insulation under it too. I’m using decent paint with primer and clear so hopefully it will hold up like yours did.

I bought some rattle cans on ebay that match my SWB color and used that to paint my engine cover. I used adhesion promoter first, and it still looks as good as the day I painted it. No heat issues at all.
