It's not impossible at all. I routinely get 24 mpg (Imperial Gallons) with my V6 auto. I do minimal city driving with it, but it's used in very hilly territory. So I can easily imagine doing better on flat ground at modest speeds.

My method of calculation is to fill the tank to the shutoff, drive for a week and then refill the tank to the shutoff. However much that second fill-up was is how much I used. I check my mileage a couple of times a month.

    back to bone stock.
the more important discussion..someone needed to create an APP to divide the number on the odometer by the number on the gas pump? WTF!! wow..just wow.

crap, quick calcs in my head, or using my cell phone calculator..i see an average of 20 on roadtrips..and about 19 when doing mostly city stuff.

I routinely get 23-24 in the city in my V6 auto access cab. Now 22-23 since I run the a/c all the time.

I cruise at 45 and don't jockey it a lot. The rpms are just a little over 1000 in fifth gear driving 45. Tucson traffic lights are usually around a mile apart and time fairly decent as long as you do the speed limit (40) or just a little faster. There are traffic cameras so you can easily get a ticket; it isn't worth it to me to get to work sooner.

Highway mileage is worse. I drop to 20 on the freeway since I usually drive 80-85

The best I think you could get in this truck is to drive on the highway at 55. I don't want to be that guy and definitely don't want to be behind him.

I thought it was too good to be true but I guess this iphone App is screwed up.

-I type in my odometer reading
-I type in the amount of liters I put in
-I type in the price per liter

and then it converts it to MPG(not kMPG) and spits out the number.

For what its worth on my 2010 ac 5 speed 5 lug 4cylinder engine with a total of 5109 miles.......26.8 mpg with about 50/50 highway/city. I drive 64 mph on the highway and like a little old lady around town. It has turned into a kind of game to see how high I can get the number but it has not changed much since new. I did some highway driving at 55mph for about 100 miles and my scangauge showed that I was getting 30 mpg which I believe. This truck is stock except for a solid bed cover and the after market air filter. That said the odometer reads 2% high, that is if it shows 100 miles I have only really gone 98. It must be because of the 15 inch wheels. That means I need to reduce the 26.8 mpg down to 26.26 mpg.

I enter my data on gasbuddy everytime I fill up. Usually mid 15's if I'm all city driving, highway trips I end up around 20. Scangauge reads as high as 24mpg on the strictly highway parts, dunno how off that is.

Only way to find out is to do the math yourself a time or two and see if your math matches the app's. Also, several km/l to mpg converters on the net, search one out and verify your numbers if you really want to know.

2005 V6 double cab 4x4, I normally get 20, sometimes up to 22. Adding the K&N CAI added 1-2 MPG.

Most everyone using a gps finds the SPEEDOmeter to be 5 mph fast mine is 4.7 fast at 65 mph odometer ...or there abouts . I found that out here on the forums, tried it and its legit.
(i sorta hypermile , but DO NOT tailgate or roll thru stops!!) My first posting on the same fuel pump got me 28-29 mph in the summer . once i corrected for it , and added synthetics the best i can do is 26 mpg at 65 mph (oregons posted speed limit). I can believe you get 28 if you outline your techniques , but it sound like the app may wrong.
Do a quick check , at a fill up do : trip miles / gallons ..... any difference in fill up level gets averaged over the more fill-ups you do...... meaning if you put less in by a small amount the next fill up will most likely be lower mpg a bit .

just fwiw , here is what i WONT do to my truck for better fuel mpg , ive seen diesel guys do these , they were major road warriors though .
Fold in both mirrors /use a camera , lowers drag
cover wheels with smooth discs ... more drag elimination
5 under posted speed, unless its heavy traffic.... lets not threadjack with this one
highway tread tires , not a good choice for us , they drove freeway miles , sensible

Careful with the correction. As you've described it I'm not sure that you actually have a correction to take into account for. The "speedometer" is known to be off by 3-5mph on stock sized tires, but the "odometer" has been shown to be very close to accurate assuming, again, that you are using stock size tires.
