I just done this mod today and noticed a difference right away. I didn't use the bicycle tube I used some hard plastic about 1/16" thick and doubled it. I don't know how long it will last but it sounds good now. This was suprisingly easy. If it lasts a month it was worth it and it was so easy I will just do it again. I will keep you updated on my status

I found that this works until the instant I go in the sand, on a dirt road or offroad. (4x a day...) But then a quick blast from the hose fixes it again. If you were to dismantle the leaf pack and put one in the center you would be all set.

    I just got it!
I did this yesterday with an innertube. No glue, just shoved her in there.

Sounds great! I work at a golf course and there's speed bumps in the entrance, and I drive past 3 greens, a practise green and the driving range before entering the parking lot.

So until today, I've been squeeking and embarrassing myself infront of all the members at the course. It was horrible. Now I just rip in there with my windows down and a big smile on my face. ...+rep. ...But I don't know how. I'll figure it out.

I had the TSB done on my '09 about 6 months ago and it has developed the squeak. It is not cool.

i just wanted to say thank you for the write up, i did this today myself, except i only used 1/16" plastic, glue, and a crowbar. I also wanted to add that i did this on my post-rough ride tsb. it took me 8 shims, and i just stuck the crowbar in, put the pre-glued shim in place and removed it, sans the chisel tool. either way you do it, it works and it takes a very short time to do so. for me, 15 - 30 minutes.

    again, thank you

I would do this but i found that it is my bushings that are making noise.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
There are 2 different rear spring TSB. There is the harsh ride TSB that exchanges a 3 leaf pack for a 4 leaf pack. Then there is a seperate TSB for the squeak.

T-SU012-07. It describes how to remove the "silencer pads", coat them with a specific grease (silica thickened extreme pressure rated synthetic), and then reinstall pads.

That TSB has a typo by the way. It says use "Nyegel 774VHMS" but it is actually "Nyogel 774VH-MS" made by NYE. It's specifically made for use in damping under heavy load and water resistance. I did a quick look for something of similar properties but it gets expensive. Normal shop grease on those pads wouldn't last long.

Change the innertube into a thin polyethylene tape from McMaster Carr, it should stay put much longer. Great idea. Some good flushing and dry lube by PB might offer the same quick result, not sure of long term effectiveness, but it's better than anything like grease that will find itself full of dust quickly.

I've read some jeep threads of folks putting poly tape of some sort between every leaf for more articulation, works well from what I've seen. Never done it myself.

Gotta like military wrap springs on a stock rig.
