I've been thinking about getting a larger milk crate or a plastic bin with a lock hole and bolting it down through the driverside drainage hole. The center one already holds down the bed mat.

Same here. Wifey says it works just fine....I can also fit my golf clubs and shoes in there when I need to.

Milk crates (or any kind of crate) and a load bar is perfect IMO

I use an action packer and a cargo bar to keep it in place. The 48 gallon action packer fits very nicely close to the cab. Very easy to take in and out and works great in the rain (keeps everything dry). Also works well close to the gate, easy to load and unload. When we go out my wife always asks, do you have the action packers?

If you had a SB 2 48 gallon action packers and two 24 gallons fit like a glove.

I saw a terrific idea for grocery storage: using the two rings on the floor near the tailgate, thread a bungee cord through 3 milk crates side-by-side. Perfect for our trip for groceries.

I bought a bed extender for multiple reasons, but it works great for hauling groceries. The space between it and the gate is ideal for groceries.

That bed extender looks like the perfect solution.

I keep a contigo toughbox near the tailgate. It’s pretty much water tight as anything can be, and it can be used for other things. $50 at lowes/HD if I recall.

This isn't a great picture, but I made this bed divider out of wood from Home Depot for like $10. If I flip it around, groceries fit nicely under it and won't bounce around when I'm driving. I'm going to take the stickers off and paint it black next.

I have a bed mat and use rubbermaid totes (cheap ones) and they're great to bring the groceries in the house too! I was completely amazed one day when a fool cut me off and I had to slam the brakes, everything in the cab went flying and the totes(with heavy and light groceries) in the back didn't move an inch when I got home! these mats are like glue! also have a tonneau cover so bought the totes to size, that may have helped. But wow I love getting a few bags in at a time with the totes, easier on the hands too!
