Painted chrome step bars

Truck came with the factory chrome step bars. for this truck i want everything to be black. So instead of buying new bars i decided to paint them. I was going to try and said the chrome all the way down but its chrome all the way through. I taped off the plastic foot pads and scuff the surface with some 400 grit sand paper. What im spraying on it is rustoleum's truck bed liner in a spray can.

Are the plastic step pads very hard to remove? I'm guessing that they must be since it looks like you didn't remove them.

 

the end caps are held in with a screw and the step pads are held in with clips, they can be removed but i have a tendency to break clips so i chose just to tape them off

 

looks good so far, that rustoleum truck bed liner is the real deal. I used it to paint my bumper and it worked very well.

 

yea it came out better than i thought it was for it being in a spray can.

after you sanded them, did you prime or just apply the paint?

 

How are they holding up? I want to do my rear bumper, but I'm afraid it'll chip.

I didn't prime my steps after sanding. So far, the bed liner stuff is holding up quite well. No chipping or peeling. I like the way it turned out.

 

no primer, and they are holding up great, i did my bumper and it came out awesome, really like it, and yes that is a 68 rs camaro
