Double Cab Short Box Bed storage
For those that don't have a tonneau cover for their truck but is looking for a great way to haul gear protected, check this out. These bins fit in the back of a short box like they were made for it. Fit's two 48 gal rubbermaid bins and two 24 gal rubbermaid bins. You can also see my rear bed rack built right off the cleats with yakima and a custom bracket.

Looks good. Nice in winter & long rainy trips.
Much better than the 30 and 20 gallon storage tubs I use once and while. |

Nice idea. Personally, if I was going to do some bed storage like that, I'd attempt at building my own.

Must have saved you a few hundred bucks doing that! I use one 18 gal rubbermaid tubgot at target and tie it to my d-rings when I go to costco.
Great Idea using 3!!

Possible Protrusion
If my calculations are correct, the Rubbermade box is 20.5 inches high and the truck bed is 18 inches deep, so the boxes stick out about 2.5 inches above the top of the bed. Is that correct?
I'm not sure if the 18 in bed depth is to the top of the bed rails or to the bottom of the bed rails. |

They aren't the cheapest bins but they are very durable and lockable (pad lock through the red handle). They are the rubbermaid "ActionPackers". The lids are strong enough to stand on. They are actually almost flush with the top of the gate. They don't stick out at all. While heading up to a ski house this past winter for the holidays, we had them all packed with gifts, food and winter gear. The skis rack holder still fits on the cross bars for all the downhill skis, snowboards, and cross country skis. It's also great if you plan on any truck camping.

I like them, great mod! Do you have them secured to the bed at all or to the rail system or do they sit nice & tight? I'm thinking of using one of them as a box under my soft tonneau.

BUT, if you look closely at the picture, it appears that the top of the boxes closest to the cab are flush against the track for the tie-downs. I'm guessing they won't stick out at all, but obviously I will defer to the guy who did it! Nice job! |

Yeah, there's still access to the rails. There's about 1/2" of clearance from the top of the bin to the underside of the cleat bracket. The bins don't slide around at all and aren't tight. There's a bit of room on either side of the 48gal that sits between the wheel wells but the 24's the the back fit perfect. When non Tacoma owners look at it, they think the truck comes with them.

I am however thinking of getting a cargo rack to put on top of the bed rack. This would allow me to haul even more gear. Boks |
