Switching from the OFF Road RIMS& Tires to the Sport 17" Rims and Tires

Hello everybody!
Before I bought my truck I really liked the Sport Alloy 17" rims. In March I ended up buying the Off road package because It was all I needed and was a bit cheeper than the sport package. When MY factory tires wear out (BFG ruggeds) I was thinking of replacing my 16" with the 17" rim off of the Sport. Has anyone done this to a off road package? I have seen a guy in my neighbor hood that has the BFG all terrains on his sport package tacoma and I think they look really good! Thank you for any help! Sorry such a long post!

Do you have / can you post a pic of that neighbor's tire? I am thinking of putting some meatier tires on my "sports" when they run out. I personally think the rubber currently on the sports don't look aggressive enough..

I have the Sport trd and think the tires could be meatyer (is that even a word?) and the front end could be leveler.... I passed a mean ass looking sport at the grocery store on thursday exactly like mine but with meaty tires and a lift (maybe 2 inches)....... now that was hot! ----> <---is what I looked like

the sport rims should work for ya without any issues, and the tire size you posted should work also, as i think its roughly the same height and all as a 265/75/16 tire. use the tire size calculator here http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
to see the difference in actual sizes.

thank you. the tire that i want w/sport rim is a inch taller because it is aLT265/70R17 where as my ones that I have now off road package are LT265/70/16. A inch diff. 31.8 vs a 30.4(rugged BFG) how much will speedo affected since I am going to a bigger rim and a little more taller aggressive tire? thank you for showing me link it was helpfull.

Also will it hurt power at all with a inch taller tire and rim??

it shouldnt hurt power at all, and going up a size, as some will tell you, their speedo is more correct now,on a gps, than with the stock size tires.......so i guarantee you will be fine. you should have no issues. that was kinda what i was saying......a 265/75/16 tire is the biggest 16 inch tire you can run without a lift on the offroad, and the 265/70/17 is roughly the same size as that.

no doubt, and if you have the "un-rugged trails".....they are junk anyway. i got 23k outta mine, and they were done. and that was rotate and balance every 5k, and air pressure adj. and checks every 2 weeks.

looks to be only about an inch taller, so yeah, there should be no problems at all with running the 265/70/17,especially with a 3 inch lift!! go for it, it'll work fine!

x2. On my 2000, I got 984 miles out of the "rugged" trails.

No offense to you BFG guys, i had a set as well, but kumho kl78's will do everything better then the BFG's at half the cost. If you dont believe me compare them at tirerack.com then order them at treadepot.com. I have a set of them on my 07 sport, they are great tires, and they were shipped to my door for a grand total of $420.00. Check it out for yourself.

BFG's are over rated. There are many AT tires that will out perform them.

not to be a thread hacker...but you guys got me thinking that maybe the BF's aren't the best for the price...i was looking online and what are your opinions on the general grabber AT2...it seems like it has a nice agressive tread and the ratings seem pretty high from what i read, not to mention they're only like 109.00 a piece at tire rack here http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....4x031&code=yes

Personally, I like the Nitto Terra Grapplers. They are an awsome tire that work well in all conditions.

Where do you plan on getting the 17" sport wheels?

Personally, I can't stand the look of the 17" sport wheels...they ruin the look of the truck. There are several other 17" options out there that are very reasonable.

Good luck with what ever you decide.
