Newbie:Please help me choose my lift kit

Hello Tacomaworld,

Newbie here and new to modding: I've been reading tons of posts on 3 inch lifts in this site but so far I still need some advice. I have a 09 DBL Cab TRD offRoad that I want to lift my truck 3 inches with 285/70 r17 Method Wheels double standard and in a few months or so put an ARB bumper on it as well. I've narrowed it down to 5100 Adjustable w Eibach front and Billies at the rear w AAL , or the ProComp lift kit which i've read is a pretty stiff ride. So far those 2 lifts are what fits my budget. So which one should I get in your opinion?. I won't really do much offroading maybe some really light trails is all as this is my daily driver.

Can the Bilsteins go high enough to fit 285's and support the ARB bumper? I Don't mind doing trimming at all if needed. or should I just go with the Procomps and can they hold the ARB bumper? I've called other offroad shops and they said the Billsteins won't clear the 285's and support the ARB bumper.

do it right the first time.. OME with 886 front coils to support the ARB/winch any 3in lift you'll need upper control arms.

you can still do a AAL in the rear.. or a dakar leaf pack would be the best

ARB makes OME & The 886s are for when you put one of there bumpers on a Taco.
OME 886s will give you a much better ride than 5100 Adjustable w Eibach front (1.6" lift at 0 and 2.45" at .85" the highest recommended setting with Eibachs and that's with out an ARB bumper) for close to the same price.

 

So with the OME all around with an AAL and 886 I can still fit 285's with trimming and they won't look awkward with that ride height correct? Also what height of lift will that set up give me? Excuse my ignorance because i really want to get this lift right the first time.

 

I'm not sure about the 886s with an ARB as far as ride hight. I know there are a lot of guys running 285s with 886s & an ARB.
I have the 885s & Dakars on 255/85/16 (33.3") with stock bumper (for now).

Get 886 / OME nitros , you will end up at 2 1/2 - 3" with the bumper on

 

Got off the phone with Wheelers offroad and he said with my budget on my lift kit I could go 5100s all around with an AAL and a top plate spacer on top to get close to 3" with an ARB bumper on. So basically I'm using a spacer to lift my truck? I thought spacers were not a good idea? Should I just get a revtek spacer kit instead since it will be the same but cheaper?

 

save you $ for a few more months until you can guy a proper lift. nothing wrong with the 5100's but 5100's plus eibach's plus a spacer... i mean it's up to you. but it wont be half the quality in ride,handling,performance of an OME lift.

What did wheelers want for the 886s, OME nitros & an AAL?

 

So Ive decided to go OME complete kit from toytec. The Rep said since I am putting an ARB front bumper on I should go with 885 and a top plate spacer to stay at 3" instead of 886. Should I go with 885 or 886?

 

depends on the weight of the bumper, most use 886, its a heavy duty bumper that is the same length as the 885, but is for people running a heavy bumper up front.

If you're going 3", you need UCA to do it right.

OME is a great setup

 

886's were designed specifically for the ARB bumper

If you go 886's you should go with OME shocks

 

So since i plan on getting an ARB bumper soon I should go with 886 correct? No need for a top plate spacer right?

 

I would get the 886's and no top plate spacer

Get the OME 5mm trim packer for the driver's side shock to combat taco lean though

Rep doesn't know what he's talking about. Like OZ said get the 886 it was made to go with that bumper.
I have the 885s on my 4Banger AC without spacers or ARB bumper and got 3" lift.

It only works with OME shocks , it mounts on the driver's side shock below the coil perch
