Break lubrication?

Got my oil changed today at the dealership and of course they had some extra services that were recommended when they checked the truck out in their 21 point inspection.

Throttle body/ combustion system cleaning
Front and rear differential drain and refill
Break lube?

I am sure I can do all three on my own, but am unfamiliar with what exactly the brake lube entails. What better place to ask than on here? If this has already been asked and answered. I did a couple searches looking for it but did not find anything that appeared to be what I was looking for. Any ideas?

 

Brake lube is applied to where the pads contact the pistons and the guide pins that go through the pads. It is NOT applied to the rotor nor to the pad's friction material.
Clean everything with brake cleaner and a wire brush prior to application.

 

Throttle body cleaning can be accomplished with a can of throttle body cleaner. DO NOT use carb cleaner. It damages gaskets and seals in the TB.
30k on diffs and xfer case. Longer with synthetics.

All can be done with basic tools. Buy a factory service manual, or find one on TTORA.com

I paid $120 for the throttle body/ combustion system cleanout. I should have done it on my own after seeing how easy it is to do via this forum. I was in the stealership checking TW site out after giving them the go ahead to do the cleaning. I wanted to go back and tell them not to do it, but it probably would have been too late anyway.

Needless to say I will do that job on my own in the future.

 

They might be talking about a rear brake clean and lube. Remove the drums and lubricate the park brake parts and the spots where the brake shoes contact and move on the backing plate.

 

The combustion system service is actually more than just a throttle body cleaning. It actually mists an induction type cleaner through the throttle body, through the intake, and over the intake valves while the truck is running. It cleans deposits from everything it contacts on its way through the intake. System. It's good stuff, but expensive to say the least.

 

The can of spray works well on the TB, Seafoam works for the remainder.

You didn't waste money on the service, but you could have done it cheaper by yourself.

 

be warned, differintial drain bolts are a bitch to remove

 

I never had an issue getting mine out The front sucks because it's an allen bolt but otherwise, mine always come off pretty easily.

Remember to get new crush washers for the differentials and transfer case drain and fill plugs. Also, ALWAYS remove the fill plug before you remove the drain plug. Just a helpful hint.
