front 5100 question

I have a '12 Offroad that has had the rear spring 4 leak installed. By adding 5100's to the front only, what size tire (16) can I run? thx

DeeKay21 02-11-2013 01:49 PM

Depends on what setting you put them to but at 2.5" you can put on 285s with some moderate trimming.

kryten 02-11-2013 01:56 PM

265/75/16 on stock wheels should be no problem without any trimming or rubbing. You can also leave your 5100 at 0 for that. Abosolute worst case you loose your front mud flaps, mut 99% not.

Or you can go bigger as suggested above if you intend to use your 5100's to lift.

And if I researched this right, I set them at 1.75 to level my truck? And the ride will be improved??

kryten 02-11-2013 02:10 PM

At 1.75, people report it to be about level, that is with rear TSB springs. (4 leafs) With a 3 leaf pack, you will be nose high at that settings.

I don't have 5100's, but most people are happy with the ride. Probably the most popular budget friendly way to lift. The higher you set them, the more the ride quality decreases.

You should be just about level since you have the overload leaf in the rear. I doubt the ride will improve since you are going to be compressing the front springs so it should be a little stiffer ride.

Definately a stiffer ride. I liked the ride better before the lift but like fire said the springs are compressed so its a stiffer ride.

I have the 4 leaf pack with 5100's set to 1.75. It seems perfectly level to me. Here is a picture next to stock.

So I had a question from a member with a 2013 TRD Sport DC?....Do the 2013 models now come with the rear overload TSB leaf springs?

My 2012 came with an overload and 3 leafs so 4 leafs total. I imagine the 2013 does to. Hopefully a 2013 owner can confirm.

Well he said he was almost certain his came with 4 leafs in the rear from the factory so I'm assuming that the later models just come with them stock.

nope just the TRD Sports have the 4 pack :-( the off roads don't only 3 leafs

if you have the off road the ride is going to be stiffer because the OR has progressive type springs and the more they compress the stiffer they are, where the sports have a linear which means the spring rate stays the same through out compression. if I understand it correctly lol

I just did the same also and mine seems to ride close to the same as stock, but mine is a sport. The off road coils will ride rougher as I have read. I like the ride on mine, may be just very slightly stiffer but feels tighter. Less body roll. I'm quite happy with mine, was afraid it would be too rough.

My 13 Taco double cab v6 4x4 only came with three leafs and a fifty lbs of firewoods in the back of the bed makes it sag like a flimpsy piece of toy. I'm thinking about upgrading those leafs in the near future.

That sucks man. You should get an add a leaf or a new leaf pack. I'm curious do you have the tow package? I'm wondering if that is the difference because I do.

No one can really confirm a rhyme or reason between models that get 3 and 4 leaf packs. FOR THE MOST PART, Double Cab Long Beds seem to have the 4 leaf, and Off Roads have the 3 leafs...thought process is the softer rear is better unloaded for offloading, while the sport is used more on street and to tow...but really, who knows...?

13 DCLB TRD Sport here with the 4 leaf...

When i bought mine, there was also a 3 leaf next to it with everything else the same. Same price, same equipment, same manufacture month in the door, same delivery date, and the only difference was the 3 vs 4 leaf. Almost signed the paperwork for the three leaf, and decided to check before hitting the finance office...dealership could care less which one I took, so I chose the 4 leaf...
