Is it ok to use mobil 1 full synthetic with the oem filter? Or is it only designed for conventional oil?

05Aztacoma 04-22-2013 08:17 PM

I use oem filter with Mobil 1. You can use any oil you like.

Go with a WIX/ NAPA gold. I use a wix 51515, it fits a bunch of vehicles, but ll of fords 351 V8. It about 2.5x bigger than the stock filter. Also pretty cheap at about $6 ea.

You can use any oil you would like to use with the OEM filter.
The filter doesn't care.

It's possible the Wix filter and the OEM filter might have similar filter media area, despite the Wix's larger size.

That is a relatively big can, especially compared to the Wix 51348 Chris examined:

Chris only looked at the filters that are specified and recommended for our engines.
The larger can may or may not fit within the shield of either the 4.0 or 2.7 on the 2nd Gen.
Now, on this filter, I would suspect that the element is indeed larger. It's generally filters that are the same diameter, but taller can, that tend to use the same element.

But there are issues beyond the O-ring diameter and thread. The bypass pressure rating is different on different filters.

Larger isn't better if it kicks into bypass every morning when the initial surge hits it.
