    Hey all,

Been having this issue with the truck for a while. When I try to pop the hood, the latch will release, but the hood will not pop up the 1" or some to reach under and release the latch completely. I have to pry my fingers in the corner of the head light to lift the hood. Any idea on what is wrong and how I can fix this?

    Thanks!

Did you check the wire to see if it was loose or not?

The lever in the cab releases the hood and the cable appears to be okay, the hood just doesn't "pop" up the inch or so it used to to allow to get underneath to release the lever completely.

Check all the bolts on the latch to make sure they are tight? Perhaps the spring is weakened

my 07 used to do this, I think it is the hood getting stuck to the rubber gasket that goes around the headlights and grill. it was very annoying to deal with, of course I never found a remedy, so I will be watching this thread

My '05 did this, and I'd have to virtually peel back my fingernails to get under the edge of the hood to pop it up to get to the secondary latch. It's the two rubber bumpers on the hood that need adjusting. One on each front corner. Give it a 1/4 turn counter-clockwise, slam shut and pop hood. If it doesn't pop up, give another slight adjustment and test until it does. Very very easy to fix and I was pissed that it took me so long to figure that out.

Adjusting the rubber bumpers solved the problem! The hood now functions like it should! Thanks guys!

+1 for the adjusting rubber bumpers! I've dealt with this for the past 2 years! No tools required and took 30 seconds!

So for me it was this....I had changed the instrument panel bulbs in my 2004 Tacoma earlier. In doing so you have to drop the plastic facia that runs along the bottom of the steering wheel and above the gas/brake pedals. Well the pull tab for the hood is in that location as well and it turns out that the cable needs to be slid into a notch on the backside of the pull tab. During my bulb install the cable slid out from there and thus wouldnt release the hood. All I had to do was crawl up into the floorboard and slide the cable back into that notch on the backside of the pull tab. Hope that helps for someone else.
