2009 with 3 Leafs. To TSB or not?

Ok, I looked at my leafs today. I have 3. 2 actual, 1 overload. So I'm guessing I could have the TSB done. I already have a TRD Offroad, so I won't get new shocks. I'm worried about lifted the arse end 1-2" and it riding a lot harsher. I don't normally carry anything in the bed. How much weight in the bed does it take to see the issue with these weak springs? I'd really like to see pics of a truck with before and after of the TSB to see how much rake it gives. I know with new leafs it takes a few weeks to months to settle them. so if someone has had it done for about 7k/6 months that's a good idea of how it's going to look.

Search around a bit, there are a lot of pics of trucks before and after with the TSB. I say if you can get it, definitely go for it. The truck is supposed to haul a certain amount without an issue, and if it doesn't this upsets me. I don't haul a lot either, but I the one time I do, I dont want to be bouncing off the bump stops. The ride is fine with the TSB leafs - its a truck not a caddy.

Nice. 7/8" of height increase. Are my rear Billy's good? Or do they need replacing also?

 

The TRD Billys will remain if you take it in for the TSB. They're probably fine unless you put some other lift on the truck. Bilstein 5100's are a popular choice, many switch out all 4, however some do only the front 2 to get the lifting capabilities. I think the Bilstein 5100's are also slightly longer than the TRD ones, allowing for slightly more lift than the stock setup.

 

well worste case scenario you take the leaf out and sell it...

You'll be sorry if ya don't. They just did mine on my 09 and I already had it lifted. They just changed the spring pack and put my AAL back in. Hardly even a noticible difference.

 

I'm not looking to lift the truck. so if I get the TSB 4 leaf pack, that's how we're rolling. Only thing I could imagine doing is changing the shocks out to a different type/brand to give a better ride. I'm a huge fan of the Monroe Reflex shocks.

 

I say go for it.......it does raise the back end up an inch or so and it stiffens it up noticeably; but if you're hauling a dirtbike or anything in the bed; then it's a good idea.

After all, it's a free mod. Do it before you no longer qualify.

 

10-4 guys. I'll start by calling the 1800 # and seeing when I have time. Sucks I won't have a car for a few days. Haven't figured out how to get to work.

 

Have you asked a dealer yet?? That's a good place to start...The 1-800 is a place to go if the dealer isn't helpful.
And it shouldn't take longer than an afternoon at the most once the parts are in.

 

Good point. I'll do that and schedule for a Sat morning being they're open Sat.

 

let me get this straight... we are suppose to have 3 aal in the rear? i mean i see 2 and one that looks like a short aal that holds them together...?

 

There should be two that are bent and then one that is much shorter and nearly straight in the old pack. The new pack has three bent and one straight. The straight one is an overload leaf.

 

oh.. ok i have the 2 main springs and an overload spring.. that's normal?

 

im confused..... tsb.. will add another leaf...i mean is that at toyota's expense? do i just go in and say that i have the incorrect number of leafs?
