bug guards

I have a 2010 tacoma BC. I cant decide if I want to install a bug guard, can I see pics of your tacomas with the bug guards installed. Thanks

thay look good, do they work, make a difference on the amount of bugs and rocks?

 

I have an AVS Bugflector II on mine.. and for the 2 or 3 weeks Ive had it, my windshield has been a lot cleaner, or so it seems..

 

i have 50k miles and no rock chips so far(knock on wood) and that is mainly highway driving....bugs are impossible to stop.

 

They do nothing for bugs but do save your hood from rock chips. Buy an all plastic one. Do not buy the ones with metal brackets. The metal digs into the paint.

 

Don't buy any! And if you have it? Take it off and throw it away!
It will cause the paint to chip off the leading edge of your hood.

I know! I had one on my truck. (NO Metal clips) all plastic. But it will do damage eventually!
There isn't enough space between the hood and the front grill for it. It is so tight that eventually it will cause the paint to chip. It's just a matter of time!

 

i have a stampeede and it is not close to my hood.

 

I've never liked the look and their performance is questionable.

 

wax front of hood twice. use high quality electrical tape and run it across hood seam, leaving an even 1/4" exposed (visable when shut). buy the weathertech one. install. enjoy.

 

Does it mount under your hood? The paint will chip between the hood and the grill.
It is being pinched in that small gap. No deflector touches the surface of the hood.

It may take a few months? It may take a few years? But eventually it will do some damage.

It's like smoker saying.

"Hey I've smoked for years and nothing bad ever happened"

But some people just need to learn the hard way.

Thanks for all the replies, I do like the way they look but I do beleave I will not get one. Im going to get a billet grill. again thanks.

 

Get the grill and also get the bug shield, and trust me go with the cabelas brand. it doesnt rub and looks perfect with the lines of your hood

 

Take your truck back to the stealership and have the 3M film applied.
My truck is white so it is nearly invisible, your mileage may vary. It's applied to all forward facing surfaces including headlights.

 

I applied the 3M film to my truck..I must say its hard to apply, hence the price if you get a professional to install it. I bought the kit for around 400 dollars. This includes, the front bumper, grill, headlights, fog lights, the fender flares, half the hood, and the middle lower portion of the bumper. I have a few air bubbles but you won't see them unless you're looking for them. Eitherway I'd rather have air bubbles than rock chips. Its a great product, it has a clear coat on it so once applied to ANY color you wont see it and should last around 7 years before it starts to yellow. I have a black TACO so i dont see the yellowing being a problem. I'll get some pics this weekend cause I need to wash the Raging Taco.
