I didn't think that a chip was available for the Tacoma, but I just found one. I was wondering if anyone has one and if so, how they like it...

a jet chip may do a little for a tacoma..................but the maf calibrator from urd would be wise money well spent.

I've got the unichip on my taco and for full price, I don't think it's really worth it. I found mine used and ended up getting exhaust and the chip for what I might have paid for just the chip.

I've talked to people that ended up pulling 25 mpg and raved about the performance. As for my experience, I have some improved performance (wifes 4runner will still kick its tail) and a slight fuel mileage increase (maybe 1.5mpg increase with a light foot). You can tune these specifically to the vehicle but I don't know how much improvement I'd see if I did it.

Also, there is one more chip maker out there but it's even more than the unichip. I can't remember where I stumbled on that one though. The price was about 1200 bucks though.

    Good luck with the decision.

Thanks a bunch. I seem to be reading a lot of exactly what you're saying. There isn't much of an increase and they're overpriced, etc. I've ended my research and don't plan on getting one. Thanks for all the help!

if you are gonna spend the money..........get the maf calibrator. from what everyone says...even with the stock map it comes with....you still see great gains!! i say if you are wanting a "chip"....go for it...the urd piece will do what you need it to man.

I don't know of anybody that has used a chip of any sorts on a Tacoma. although, my father use to retail these Unichips and I haven't heard anything bad about them from customers. They are a hell of allot for what you get, but the company does do a substantial amount of R&D for their products. If i remember correctly, they have a PDA that you can get with there setup also. This will really start to set you into the hole though. Unichips make systems for everything from acura to porsche applications.

Their MAF Cali if you just want to spend a little cash, ie... 500ish dollars with product and scan tool...

Or, go for the biggest bang for the buck and get the APR X-1:

    http://www.urdusa.com/product_info.php?cPath=66_72&products_id=1260518754

Word from members on TN & CT are totally giving props to this mod. So much as to say more bang for your buck than the SC...

I will do this mod shortly, but got stumped taking care of suspension and possibly clutch issues first.

Research this site first, then order through URD (best price):
    http://www.aprpower.com/

    Good luck...

Whoa! That is a little pricey eh? 1300 bucks!?

Looks like it has some pretty stout power gains, but im not so sure about getting rid of that rev limiter. I would think you'll probably start floating the valves if you take it much over where the stock limiter is already placed.

Not sure about floating valves. From my research, no one has complained yet,,,

Maybe we can Gadget to chime in on this one, but rev limiter was the last reason I would purchase this set up. Damn, I get more scavenging from the cam gear exh setup, throttle position true setup, thermostat adjustment's. I can keep going on, but you must read all before doubting. And it's not just X-Runners running this, the benefits are out there...

The X-1 is hands down one of the best performance kits out there. I have been running in my truck for about 6 months now. Absolutely love it!!

No problems with the higher rev limiter. Remember, you don't have to rev that high. That is all up to you. :D

As far as gains.. My truck with a supercharger, the X-1, and some bolt ons out runs Charger SRT-8s, 350z, etc. Capable of low 13's in the 1/4 as of now. Soon to be in the 12's. So in short... X-1 = power. :D

That is only the tip of the iceberg as far what it can do...

Yep. Was just out there on the 19th. That is when I ran my current best. 13.49 @ 104. Beat a modded Evo VIII, and a Charger SRT-8 twice. He was very shocked after the first lost, and just accepted the fact that a v6 pickup was faster then his 425hp muscle car. :D

Hell yea, right on man. I used to race out there allot, my brother and i won a few track championships out there when we raced jr dragsters. We raced for hire after that in a few comp cars but I had to take a break for school.

I heard that they recently lost their IHRA sanctioning (havent confirmed that yet), Although i do know they lost the national event... Sucks to see that happen.

Right on! I haven't heard anything about there affiliations dropping them.

I plan on heading back out on the 9th and make another attempt on the 12's. My launch hasn't been all that great. If I can drop that 60' time, I should be able to come close..
