I have used it to operate my garage door opener after Katrina and Gustav. I've also used it to operate a circular saw to cut 2x4s in a pinch. It wouldn't spin at full speed, but it was enough.

I've used it to power my drills battery charger while driving to jobsite. Also powers aerobed mattresses well.

I read that and for about 30 seconds I thought "Hey that's ingenius! What quick thinking." Now I'm just wondering why you were too lazy to pull the red handle and slide it up/down manually... :p

Depended on whether I was just using it to get in or out or have it stay open. Just to get in and out, did it manually. When I needed it open for more extended periods, I used the bed outlet. The true mark of an engineer is creative laziness.

I've used it to drill 1/2" holes through 5 acres of vineyard trellis poles (lots of drilling). So, definitely helpful there.

However... I tried it with a small coffee maker while camping. It didn't have enough juice to "percolate"...

It's a give and take / trial and error "perk"

I need to figure out the voltage or watts used by my 6" buffer. Anyone here tried to use a buffer connected to the bed outlet?

    Volts x Amps = Watts so 120 x 1 = 120W = good to go.

The bed outlet is of moderate usefulness. It'd be a lot more useful with a 400W anytime mod and a few outlets in the cab. With an outlet in the cab it's good for charging a laptop or cell phone, in the bed you could plug a light into it or a radio or cordless tool battery chargers. I'd like to find a small blender that would work in it, that'd be sweet for camping.

Other than that to upgrade to a significantly larger inverter means more amperage draw on the battery/alternator than I'd be comfortable with. To add extra batteries and stuff is just kinda dumb. By the time you get into all that you could just buy a generator that will run longer on a lot less fuel than the truck engine and put out more power. A little generator could be left on half the night while you're camping with no worry of someone jumping in the truck and taking off, running the truck out of gas, or running the truck battery flat. Probably quieter too and less stinky exhaust, especially if you tucked it off in the trees.

Using it to charge up tool (or laptop) batteries on the way to a jobsite seems like a great use for it. I bet it could power a pretty bright bed light too.

I have used mine to charge batterys for tools, ran circular saw, a drill, 4 1/2'' hand held grinder and a work light to help brighten things up so I could take care of the big guy in my avatar picture.
