On either the driver or passenger side, I want to mount my Scosche phone holder. It's got a plate which has 4 screw holes or bolt holes. I'd like to bolt it to this part, which is a dark grey part directly below the vent.

If I drilled into that material, about a 1/2" or less, is there anything back there I could hit? I figured there's some wire or something but I'm more cocerned with AC ducting or a sensor of some sorts.

    Anyone done this?

Like Jerez above said nothing back there. At least from the picture you have there. On the right side mine has the airbag turn off but even so the cover just pulls straight out. Shouldn't have any problem mounting it there.

I bought this item at wally-world in the automotive section for 15 bux. It came with both a vent-mount and a flat plate with 4 predrilled holes and 4 of the bolts/nylon locking nuts you see in the pic.

The flat plate allows for no adjustment so get it like you like it.

Also, I'd say 20% of the left side of the phone is blocked by the steering wheel, but the wiper blade stalk doesn't really get in the way, because it doesn't push backwards, only pulls forwards.

I really wanted it there cause I have the BluLogic handsfree and the factory iPod integration cable (which I re-routed as you see in the bottom pic), and needed a display of sorts to see who's calling me.

I'll eventually get the Kenwood KIV-BT901 when it comes out, because it has Pandora Link and a backup camera input (I'm gonna add another one to the truck for a travel trailer). Then I'll have one for hitching up the truck (the rear-view mirror one), and one for backing up the TT.

For now, this will do, and it gets my phone out of the way.
