Hmm...I think maybe they weren't kidding when they specified that this get changed a little more often than every 50,000 miles.

I had to dig around in the blower fan for the few maple seeds and crud bits that fell in when I was taking this filter out.

Here's that (stock) filter's information panel:

I purchased six new filters from Logical-source.com for $3.62 each. To buy one, I was going to be charged $8.20 or so for shipping. To buy six, I was charged $8.60 or so. Since the same filter fits my wife's Pontiac Vibe, I figured I'd buy a half dozen or a dozen at a time.

I'm thinking I'll shorten the change period to every second or third oil change...probably will help my allergies considerably.

ETA: Thanks MountainEarth for finding this deal -- I would have bought from Amazon if I had found this source:

They are super cheap, I change often. I change mine at 5,000 miles (which is about once a year for me), and they are always incredibly dirty.

Changed mine at 15k and it was pretty bad. I bought a few for like 3 bucks a piece online. At 21k now. I should check it.

If you open your glove compartment, empty it, disconnect the dashpot (the 'easy down' cylinder on the right hand side of the box), and rotate the glovebox down, you should be able to see if there is a little horizontal door with two latches on top. If there is, gently push those latches and lower the door. That's where the filter goes.

If the door's there, you can put in a filter. Should be the same ones the rest of us are using.

Great find, I will definitely order a few from them for that price, surely beats $55 that the dealership charges :der:

(...as if that wasn't crazy expensive already, i got quoted $48+tax for ONE d-ring, so about $100 or so for a pair?? Seriously??)

No, that was MY shit, and you can't have it. :)

Probably you periodically heard something get whizzed through the fan and it was shot out of a vent somewhere. I doubt that it is all "built up" in there unless it's sitting in the fan itself. Which you can check carefully by hand with the filter door open.

Can't take credit for the find -- I saw that link on here a long time ago. I just wanted to do a PSA about how terrible my original was before I replaced it. I really didn't think it was going to be THAT bad.

You want another tip that I didn't come up with, but will be glad to share? Get the D-rings from Army Surplus Warehouse.

Here's the heavy duty military ones people are putting under the bed mount bolts.

Here's the 'light' heavy duty ones other people are using, or are putting under the cargo rail bolts to use as lashing points. Five for $5...they are almost as heavy as the military ones above.

ETA: Original thread for the D-rings.

Yeah. Despite being at 47,000 miles, my truck has been on the road for just under 2 years.

So I am getting ready to order some of these for my 08 DCab and noticed a $.82 cent price difference (higher) than the one for the 09. Is there a difference in the filter? I realize the price difference is not much, but just curious as to why

I washed mine with light soap and water and it's good as new. I'm going to reuse it many times before I replace it.
