I had to get the tsb on my 2011 I dont think there is any soft or firm 3 leaf packs. It's just based on your needs. If you drive with an ice chest and that's it you are probably good with a 3 leaf pack, if you put any weight in the back you will probably be a good candidate for the tsb. It is a firmer ride unloaded though so keep that in mind.

Actually, the three leaf pack that I had was fairly stout. I made a few trips hauling a yard of bark each tiime without much issue. In fact, the new 4 leaf pack is better but not by much when hauling the same yard of bark.

Interesting isn't it, mine are 48220-04190-K LH ! NOT THE SAME (ie different springs). Thank you Oceanrunner! Any others who have spring numbers of springs that DO allow the truck to bottom-out with loads?

Just so the information is accurate... I had several hundred pounds of cargo and 3 adult people in my truck.. TWO full ice chests, camping gear, firewood, a 7 gallon water container, tent, sun canopy, gear, etc. That would have made my 2005 DC bottom out on every bump (and did, with less in the truck). The 2010 did not/ does not bottom out.

Great, but do you have the photo of or part number off the 3 pak springs they replaced?

We (so far) have one example where my 'good' 3 pak has a different # than another 3 pak that was 'bad'.

So, we can see there are even more than one model of 3 pak springs out there...

My 2005 prerunner SB never bottomed out, My 2011 4X4 LB did, so I had it done. same loads, 30 gallons of water, 5 people and camping/climbing gear for 15+. I would guess it is from the load sitting farther back.

I figure it was cheaper then an AAL or buying an aftermarket pack. well, free is the price I usually aim for.:D

Just to clarify. I don't know yet if my my truck bottoms out. It's 2 months old with 1,000 miles on it. I have only had two people in it (me and a passenger). The numbers I gave are the original three leaf pack. I have not towed or had a load in the bed yet.

I'll have to check my spring numbers, my 09 has never bottomed out. Never had more then 5 or 6 hundred pounds in the back but anyone going up and over the Grapevine in So Cal can back me up, even a unloaded truck could bottom out on that stretch. The one thing I have noticed in my three leaf pack is they are flat, no curve to them at all :notsure:

How can you make trucks for 40 years and still get the springs wrong?
