Mods to run 285s

I was going to stick with 265s to keep my cost of lifts, tires, etc down, but after looking and thinking about it more i'm leaning to get a 2"AAL and Billie 5100s at 2.5 up front. Would I have enough room to run 285s with this? TIA

 

If you want some more lift out of the front set your billies at 0 and put 885 coils up on.

 

Same setup. All I did was trim a small amount.

 

Two things that come to my mind are:

1) make sure the offset/backspacing/rim width of your wheels will be compatible with your setup -- some wheels can cause more rubbing issues than others

2) you may end up needing new UCA's, again depending on your wheels, and depending on whether or not your alignment shop can get your caster in spec with the stock UCA's. I had problems getting my caster in spec with just 1.75" of front lift.

Just switched from 265/70 to 285/70 tires. I even have both front mud flaps on. Kinda had to modify the mud flaps a little. It keeps debris from scratching the sides of the truck

 

i see a cab mount chop coming soon also, i had some major trimming even after removing mud flaps. 7089 pro comps 17 x 9 with 285 70 17 km2's. i am lifted at 3" in the front. i am not sure of back spacing as i these were bought off craigslist.

Just reading through different posts on forums about running 35's, and the information obviously applies to tires smaller than that but bigger than stock. It appears to me that where most folks go wrong on fitting larger tires is with their rims. They run rims that are two wide with too little backspacing. You will notice on many posts people say I run tire size X with no rub, then you have someone else pipe up no way cuz I have that size tire and it rubs like crazy. But rarely do people talk about their rims. I think if you are running larger tires and you have less than 4.5'' backspacing you are going to be contending with more issues than if you had run at least 4.5''. I'm not saying that is perfect for every application just making an observation based on many threads and posts regarding fitting larger tires.

Thats set up looks bad ass. I'd be very happy with that look!
But anyway, I appreciate all the input info. I'm sketchy on trimming out and a mount chop. I may just have to stick with 265s for a while if that is the case. I just dont want it to look dumb picked up and small tires.

Also, I was wondering about why some said that they will run with minor trimming and some guys respond with a total different take on it. Rims and backspacing are a great point. What would be the optimal rim sizing then to run the 285s with minor if any trimming?

285's on 17x9's with -6mm offset. Some trimming was needed around the inner fenders, had to removed the front mud flaps for sure. I have no contact with any parts of the frame or mounts. ​
