If you have the time and some basic handyman skills, I'd say go for it. It seems like every time I have paid someone to do a home remodeling project, I have complaints about the quality of the work. There is something about doing the work yourself and seeing the results come out better than the so called "experts" would have done. When it is your own home, you take the time to do everything right, not just get throught he job and on to the next one. Take some time to researxch what you want to do, and don't try to rush the job. Great feeling of accomplishment in doing the job yourself, if you have the time.

Everybody knows a carpenter's house is never finished

I built houses for a while. Most contractors had projects going at their own houses that were never finished. The guy I worked for had started an addition when I started working for him. Three years later and it was closed up but still just roughed in...the wifey was way more than pissed too :D

    Hey OP , what's the story ?

Did you ever do this project ?

    How did it go ?

Did you do it yourself ?

Have you had a flood or house fire yet ?

Trading for work is a great way to get stuff done. Especially the stuff you can't or don't want to do.

I am in the process of doing mine... It is an older home with shit being unleveled and not square. If I had the extra cash, pay someone to do it...

I think if the answer to the last question is "NO" then the answer to the third question is "success"

maybe two more days, and we are done!! it has been hell. my wife and i barely talk!! hahahahha. i think i owe her a SPA day. love that woman, she is the best job superintendent ever. she ran the schedule, made sure we had the supplies, called for city inspection, etc.

of course she treats my tacoma like a work truck running the supply lines. i havent driven my truck for two weeks. :(

    in closing. i am done.

well, i still need to paint a couple of doors, trim, and do wall touch up..plus seal the grout.

one mistake. i put the friggen shower head too low. i'll install a slide bar, just as soon as my credit card quits smoldering. i'll probably revisit the water supply lines under the sink also. make it neater. for now, i gotta clean and move back into the house.

one crappy iphone pic with shakey hands.

    Looks nice!

One thing, don't grout around the base of the toilet--if the seal leaks, you'll never know.
