Its been fun, thanks Tacoma World

After 40k miles and just under 2 years of ownership I have moved on to a 11 double cab Tundra. The Tacoma was a solid car and did everything I needed, including towing a 21 foot toy hauler with a weight of 4600 lbs dry. However the last couple of trips with the addition of more weight (my wifes quad) I knew I was pushing the limits of the V6.

First 2000 miles of the Tundra were great, towing was night and day as I didnt feel trailer weight anymore, 4x4 pulled me through some soft sandy sections and the longer bed allows me to throw my bikes in the back with the tailgate closed. All great news except at around 2500 miles I encountered a rocker arm failure which had the car at the dealer for about a week. Everything was repaired under warranty and was given a 6 year 100k platinum warranty at no cost for my troubles.

Shaky start to say the least, but im hopeful the Tundra will be as reliable as the Tacoma was for the long haul.

Thanks all for the helpful posts and topics which taught me so much about the truck. Ill stop by from time to time to see how the Tacoma's are coming along.

Nice Tundra. I think I'm about to head that same direction. I have a toy hauler as well and put my 800 Lb VTX in it and I'm just tired of worrying about overloading the Tacoma.

 

Thanks for the compliments guys, appreciate it. You can definitely feel the size difference of the trucks while driving and im still not used to the longer bed and wider stance of the truck when backing up. Love the compact truck look/feel of the Tacoma..

Exactly, I continued to count pounds when loading and spreading the list of items throughout the caravan we would drive up with. The last trip I was hitting 4.5k RPM on an incline for about 5 miles, needless to say it didnt sound good. Finally decided enough was enough and

 

So would you say that you pull your TH at a good smooth 65-70 mph and feel pretty solid and no over straining?

That is one mean looking Tundra. Congradulations.

 

Power, stability is all there and more. My recent trip with the Tundra was the last road I towed with the Tacoma. The same hill where the Tacoma struggled, the Tundra did with ease. One section I realized I hit 80mph without knowing it. The 5.7 is a beast of an engine.

Also mine came with the tow package which includes a Tow/Haul button, its suppose to prevent sway. It will engage brakes/power to an individual wheel if the computer senses any sway.
