    Not likely, you would be better off shooting his heart out. Grizzly bears have incredibly thick skulls. I've read reports of conservation officers killing a bear only to find tons of rounds throughout, including one that had a 1 once slug embedded in its skull. I know a hunter that has shot the bear in the heart with a large rifle and the bear still ran a couple hundred yards before collapsing. Tough tough animal. "If your not strong enough to kill the bear, let the bear kill himself." Grizzlies like to bury there food, your best bet is to play dead and hope to hell he buries you alive and leaves before he eats!

    well, that may be all well & true. either way, I am not going into the forest w/o my side arm. maybe some drunk indian would want to try and jack my shit. maybe some loonie straight outta the mental hospital is out looking for his next victim. the moral of the story stands;

    1. should always pack a sidearm, no matter what you are doing.

    -its better to die standing & fighting on your feet, than die on your knees (even if it is to a damn bear).

    Yea, true. Were not allowed to carry sidearms in Canada. However I never go into the woods without a knife! We don't have grizzlies where I live, but we do have cats. I don't imagine Arizona has a large population of grizzlies though!

    nope. I'm more likely to be attacked by a drunken Yahtahey, or a loonie than a bear.

    my brother spends half of every year in alaska and says everyone that doesn't carry a rifle carries a .44 mag. not as effective as a big bore rifle but a shot in the head will bring down a full grown grizzly. of course it's still risky as hell but its better than nothing
