I dont think he was comparing prerunners to "nonprerunner" 2wd's. He was comparing prerunners to 4wd's. lol

I know. I'm saying I don't get the appeal of pre-runners. They have the worst of both worlds.

You sacrifice all of the great things about the non-prerunner trucks so that you can have 4wd and be capable off road. Pre-runners make all of those sacrifices for nothing really.

When i bought my truck, I knew I was getting a 4x4. I'll admit I haven't used it a whole hell of a lot, but when I do, I am REALLY glad I have the 4x4. It's gotten me out of some pretty sticky situations! Like everyone else says, to each their own! I got mine!

I'm not the OP, but how can I get that line to work for me if I shave my head?

Oh also hate to thread jack but what would be a good 3 inch lift for my truck? and can I fit 37 inch tires with a three inch lift and no rubbing or trimming of anything?

    Thanks! :)

The only difference in a Prerunner and a 4WD is that the Prerunner is missing half of its drivetrain. There is no arguement to that... its simply fact.

But as many have said, if you dont need 4wd than that is just more drivetrain to break, also fact

even the desert gets muddy sometimes...

    If I don't have a reason for 4WD... I create one :burnrubber:

In AZ that doesnt happen much. The puddles are small enough when I need 4wd I just hit it with more speed. Thats more fun to me anyways

    1. Couldn't afford the insurance for a 4WD (I'm 22)
    2. I'd probably break it within a week of having it (I'm really hard on my things)

It's my first vehicle, so I went really basic because I can't afford to keep fixing things. I would really like to have power windows and locks though.

I have owned my 02 Prerunna' for two weeks. For me 4x4 would be a nice thing to have but in the end, I use mine as a car as do many people. Being a a new guy (my 3rd post!) I have not much to offer other than in my mind, if you do not need to have 4whl other than a once in a while use (i.e. snow) then the prereunner would be the way to go. I really like mine so far! v6 Double cab/auto TRD. About 18.9 city/high.

It was more about the weather, for me, when I got the 4x4. I was in Ohio and had no intention of offroading. That has changed, now that I'm in Virginia. I do offroad occasionally, and don't mind going home to Ohio in the winter at all anymore.
Get what you want and can use. Your terrain may be better with the V6 Prerunner/locker. If you ever plan on going where you'd need it often enough, get the 4x4. Otherwise, don't sweat it.

That's a pretty good analogy to what a Prerunner is... a 4X4 with the dick chopped off
