I have the new gauges on my 2011 and finally just went to the dealer and they turned it off for me. It was free.

Imagine that...dealer does something for free...

Did you happen to ask how they did it?

Someone gave me a link to this site today, and I was reading this thread earlier. Now, I look at the end of the thread, and I see people having the dealer turn the seat belt chime off? I never would have dreamed the dealer would do that for liability reasons.

Anyhoo, my old ‘93 SR5 that I’ve had since ‘94 with only 64k original miles on it died last week, and it looks like I should be closing the deal on a new 2011 Tacoma Access Cab tomorrow. This will be a major change and upgrade. I’ll ask the dealer if they will turn the chime off. If not, I’ll be trying the fix in this thread.

I was wondering if this odometer trick would work on a 2007 Camry? Anyone know? That chime drives me nuts when I have a passenger.

If you have anything in the seat or rest your right arm on the passenger seat headrest it can sense the weight & set off the chime.

I bought my 2011 Tacoma today, and talked to them about turning the seat belt chime off. Since the service department closed before my truck was delivered, they will do it next time I’m up there. He is pretty sure it can be done.

I caught the service dept manager as he was leaving for the day and had him look at my Camry, and he wasn’t able to get to it, but doesn’t think it can be done on that model because of all the air bags, so I’ll try the instructions on that link when I have the time. If I can’t get the instructions to work, I’ll take it to the dealer next time I’m up there and see if he can do it with his computer equipment. He said he will try to turn the chimes off for me, but makes no promises.

New Tacoma owner (actually second one, my son has a 99 taco). Local dealer tells me they can't/won't turn off the seatbelt chime because of liability.

Love this truck, HATE the seatbelt warning. For the love of God, someone please post how to disable the chime without tearing the dash or the seatbelt apart. Please. Please.

hey fellas, after trying everything, and even considering purchasing a belt "insert" which mimics the belt being fastened, i went to the dealer and they were able to turn it off for $50. even they stated they wouldn't be certain it was possible until hooked up to their computer and said no charge if they weren't successful. incidentally, i chose to have it disabled as i place a large duffel on the passenger seat every night for work and tired of hearing that incessant beep. otherwise i diligently "buckle up"

I'm going to ass u me he couldn't do it by following the steps in the free mod. If this assumption is correct - do you have anything constructive to add ? Stealerships are named that for a reason.

I have the white gauges. I could not get the mod to work with ODO or Trip A. If anyone has a different idea, please post.

Nothing major or fancy. Just stuff to make it work better for me. Running boards, seat covers, BakFlip
I just bought a new 2011 with the white gauges. Build date was 05/11. I've tried to disable to seatbelt chime and all I have to show for it is a permanently dented finger tip.

I've talked to three dealerships about disabling the chime and got negative answers from all three. Very negative.

Has anybody actually disconnected the plug under the driver's seat? If so were there any problems or inadvertent disabling of other features?

I use the Tacoma for a work rig and spend a lot of time hopping in, driving a very short distance on logging roads, and hopping back out. The seatbelt chime is making me nuts.

Today I disconnected the switch under the seat. The chime went away, but I was hoping that other knowledgeable people would give input if the airbag would be still operable. Except for the very few times the driver would not be in his seat, it seems odd that there is a driver seat switch at all. Seems like they would assume the driver would always be there if the vehicle were running (except for service).

thanks george;) you assume correctly, i did try the free mod w/o success. sure it would have been great to have it done free, but after reading here about dealerships who flat-out refuse leaving guys to twist in the wind, i feel fortunate:) for those unfortunate souls, there are many sites online offering seatbelt gizmos you simply plug into the belts receptacle which are quite cheap, though i personally have not tried them. hope this helps............
