I just bought my 06 Taco DC 4x4 a few months ago from a Ford dealer. I got it with a ProComp Lift, Procomp wheels/tires, and custom head unit. It now has 91k miles on it, and I have learned that it the transmission is pretty much shot, and the steering rack is bent. I did get a warranty from the dealer, and they will replace both of the parts. But I am worried what else might be wrong with it. So my question is, Is the Truck worth keeping? And are our trucks worth keeping after 100k?

    Pic of said truck...

Fix that stuff under warranty, and drive the crap out of it until the warranty is expired.

If it's under warranty then keep it. Naturally assuming they'll take it to Toyota to get the tranny replaced? How much? Can you sell it for a profit? So many unanswered questions. Do you really love it? Attached? First purchase?

I've got 123,000 now and going strong. Tough call. The easy answer is you can always get another Tacoma.

It is a 6 Speed, sorry I didn't put that in my original post. And the warranty is from Ford, but they are sending it to a Toyota dealership to do the repairs.

I think that it is a good thing because you now have a basically free brand new transmission and steering rack.. Keep the truck! you are very lucky you got the warranty!

There's not much to say about the steering rack and associated front end parts. If you drive it hard off road, it's going to get beat up, and it's going to need eventual replacement. Sounds like you're there. Once you get all that replaced, you should be good to go for another 91k.

As for the 6-speed, the 05 and 06 6-speeds are shit. There have been 2 revisions since .. one in 2007 and one in 2009. Things like shift forks and syncros were beefed up. Get the 6-speed replaced with a new one, and you should be just fine until the end of the truck.

So yeah ... get it fixed and keep it.

Yes. They're shitty. I know two people personally that have had to replace their 6 speeds. Plus, many on here.

with a warranty keep it, you can take it where ever you want the warranty you bought isnt specific to the dealer they arent allowed to sell in house warranties anymore so they just buy the warranty from a third party and sell to you. drop it off at toyota and give them the contact info for the warranty compan. should be good to go.
