reese farm jack vs. hi lift

    saw this a tractor supply today. its a 48" lift. the brand is reese and looks identical to the hi-lift. tag says its rated to lift 7,000 lbs. the hi-lift says 4,660 lbs. the hi-lift is 89.99 and these are on sale for 39.99 (from 49.99).

    does anyone have any experience with them? for half the price im tempted to get it, but dont want to buy junk thats just going to break or is dangerous.

    Spacer lift, bumper stickers, ejector seat, etc.
    I'm not sure if it's good or not, but I personally wouldn't cheap out on something like this where it could potentially fail while you are using it on the trail. Just my opinion. Could very well be just as safe/usable as a hi lift but I don't want to find out otherwise.

    i couldnt agree with you more. i just feel like sometimes you pay for the name on some things. and in some cases you want to pay for the name (hi-lift). just trying to hear if maybe this is a case where the reese one is a comparble product.

    Every experience I've had with them is that the action is nowhere near as smooth as a real hi-lift.

    Hi-lift has some quality issues too, but apparently most of what you're paying for is machining precision in the jack assembly itself, because once lubed it's definitely smoother than anyone else out there.

    And if you're going to buy a hi-lift, go ahead and get an x-treme from Amazon for the same as the usual model on most shelves:

    completely stock
    hilift makes all sorts of cool stuff to add to the highlift for lifting the wheels, for winching, for a dead weight to winch from.

    id make sure the "I" beam is the same as well.

    Also, hilift parts (pins, springs, levers) are easy to buy in case you break something.

    I got my hilift for $60 at 4wheel parts

    that looks pretty nice. pretty much the only difference between this one and the standard hi-lift is the stainless parts and powdercoating? so this would probably hold up better if it was going to be mounted in a place where it will be exposed to the elements?

    Yeah between the stainless and powdercoating, it should do a whole lot better comparatively speaking.

    I've had one for about 5 months, mounted in the bed of the truck parked outside the whole time. It's doing fine. The powdercoating is shitty though....there are several spots where it rusted like the regular hi-lift. But I'll get around to touching that up with a rattle can before too long here.

    The point is, it's the same price, so why not go ahead and get the advantages?

    Just picked up the cast and steel one for $53 at Amazon. No tax and shipped for free in 2 days with the prime trial.....I'll just cancel that tomorrow! Might as well pay a little more and get better quality.

    I have had my cast & steel Hi-lift for 15 years and it is in great condition and still works great. You cant ask for more than that.

    My ebay cheapo has worked great.... Lil rusty from being out all day everyday but even lifted a full size old school chevy on 35's all the way to the 4ft mark and held strong

    I vote for the hi-lift. They will bend before they break. Chinese steel on the farm jacks breaks before it bends and the hardware is inferior. Hi-lifts have issues too, but once you break them in they are smooth as butter and will last a lifetime.

    not true..mine actually bent a good bit when lifting that big ass chevyand went right back after the weight came off....not arguing that hi-lift isnt better...id love to have the 60in extreme hi-lift but for 48bucks shipped new i couldnt turn down the cheapo for now

    My Dad is still using the same Hi-Lift jack he bought when we moved to Texas almost 25 years ago. I used it for pulling out t-posts, changing tires, and so much other stuff. Sometimes there is a reason name brand has that reputation and is worth the extra bucks over the import stuff.
