Damn! Had I seen your truck before I went shopping for a new one, I might have gone for that 4x4x4 regular cab. Nice truck! Wanna trade? :D

this is my 4th 4x4 truck over the years and by far the most capable in the snow. i also think the dura tracs had alot to do with it lol those tires where awesome in the snow the best tire imo for snow by far!

this winter i have a completely different set-up now i'm lifted and running 34 inch nitto trail grapplers they are an m/t tire so i'm a bit concerned about their performance in the snow to be honest.

do any of you have any experience running this tire in the snow at all? the last pic is how it sits now maybe for christmas santa will bring me a warn winch lol.

man I love how all the 4 cylinders in this thread are manual! That makes me happy, were they only availiable with manual before 2011 or something? I find it odd that that many people would be driving stick in this day and age, I wont drive anything but stick, I hate automatics.

The manual's gear ratios are significantly more appropriate for day-to-day use than the 4-spd auto. The V6's 5-spd auto works quite well, however.

On-topic: I have decent snow tires and 4x4 is still night-and-day compared to 4x2 in the snow. I was impressed enough that when the time came to replace the other car in the family, I got a Subaru.

To my knowledge, 2011 was the first model year for AT in 2.7 4x4 models...I suppose the biggest benefit is the bucket seats in the regular cab.

I spun my dunlops all the time. Even with weight in the bed. Have Wrangler RT/S now and much better. Def recommend weight in the bed. I also do about 240#. Only got stuck once last winter but was in thigh deep snow with full tire pressure. Sledding the frame. I do notice some hesitation when in 4H but 4L goes like a sonofabitch.

    Just wait!
The issue with the 4X4 switch is the clutch has to be pushed in all the way and even then it's a bitch. I'm thinking of making a stick conversion for the switch.

I did fine with the stock tires in Cleveland. I did even better with Destination A/T's. I didn't need weight in the back since I had a cap and a heavy bed mat.

i'm interested in this yellow wire mod you speak of.... how difficult is it to do ie. how long will it take any consequences?

that sounds like it would make a 4 banger go through a shit ton of snow lol with little drama.

    Nothing but a K&N filter
I drive a 2011 2.7L 4 cyl single cab, stock other than goodyear wrangler tires and a K&N filter. I live in the blue mountains near the WA OR border and I get an average 4 feet of snow setting on the ground every winter for several months at a time. my driveway is setup so that I have to turn immediately at the base 180 degrees so I can't get a run at it, it's about 200 yards to the top and it's about a 7% grade. After a week it's slicker that your standard bob sled run from compressing the snow into hard ice. I can't hardly walk up it! for years it took me around an hour to get up with chains on in a 2001 f-150, and again in a 2008 f-150. I bought my tacoma in late Oct. or early Nov. in 2010 and I was shocked at how easy it was to conquer the seemingly unconquerable all last winter! Put it in 4 high and the little beast just hops right up quicker that anything I've ever seen! You should have no trouble at all, in fact I think you'll find it to perform far better than your ford, as did I. Good luck to you sir, not that you'll need it in a toyota.

The truck is capable in the snow with good tires, the 4 banger will pull the truck right along with no problem. Weight in the bed is a good idea, for added traction.
