Mine is clicking when the wheel is turned the slightest bit. I didnt hear it untill i upgraded from 32" tires to 33" tires. I dunno if its the new tires causing the problem somehow or if its the alignment that was done afterwards. or it could be from taking it to the desert the day after the installation and maybe something happend.

The groan you hear when turning is the steering stop rubbing up and down on the stop pads. This is a common condition on IFS trucks. At the factory Toyota installs plastic covers on the steering stops. These plastic covers quickly wear out. Contact between the stop, and it's pad causes a quick loud groan and is especially noticeable when making a U-turn with one tire going up over something like a curb. Despite the annoying noise it's not causing any damage. There are two solutions to this noise. One is replace the factory plastic cap with new ones. The other is to toss out the plastic caps and put a little dab of grease on the steering stop pads at each oil change. With will keep the noise under control.

I found this pic online, im not sure what kind of vehicle it is but it might give an idiea of what you/we are looking for.

Had my appointment today with the dealer... They said there is no fix for it other than them lubing it. They did the lube today on my Steering Stops and I went out a tested it out several times with not a single noise! I guess that is the only way to fix it is if it starts to act up get it lubed by the dealer or do it yourself. If I knew where it was on my truck I would do it myself but I looked and cant find anything like the photo above.

I've been noticing a muffled groan/rub sound from rt. front wheel area that is consistent at low speed only when turning left from a slow start...it goes away when wheels are returned to center and speed increases....my first thought is that I have a tire rubbing or bearing going out... I checked and there's no way tire or wheel is rubbing on anything. It kind sounds like an old power steering pump groan, but then again its consistent with the rotation of the wheels. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The part that is shiny is your steering stop on the LCA. There is one on each side of the LCA, on both LCAs and one on each side of the knuckle on both knuckles.

I was thinking of melting some wax and dripping it onto the steering stop. I'd prefer not to have grease and dirt everywhere.

    So, question:
I test drove an '06 TRD sport the other day and while driving slowly in reverse with the wheel turned, I noticed that there was a very noticeable grinding sound. Just like the noise you would hear from wheel rub. I got out of the truck and looked all around the inside of the tires and wheel wells, but saw no signs of rubbing.
I thought it could the steering stop cap issue, but the dealer took it to the mechanic and the mechanic said "at slow speeds when your foot is softly on the brake this is normal when the rear drum brakes are in a slight bind due to the wheel being turned to the left or right." Is this true, or does it even make sense??
Seems like this shouldn't be a problem that the Taco should have, but if it is I could live with it.

That's an easy fix.... don't buy that truck. Move along.....Test drive more trucks.

When you're buying...NEVER NEVER 'live with it' unless you're getting one hell of a good deal and/or you know exactly what the problem is.

Trucks & cars should never bind or grind while in reverse or forward as part of a 'normal' operating condition.

So is the mechanic and dealer full of it? I can work out a much better deal if I just know what the problem is. I already got hime to knock of $500 for the compass and temp module not working.
