The best invention in resent history in skiing I am convinced is the newish heated boot bags. The one I have is from fuxi racing but there are several different sources. They plug in to the house to get really toasty before you leave then to 12v in the truck to keep the temperature. Makes a -20 day much nicer when you have warm and soft race boots to put on. My boots when cold are almost impossible to get on even on the floorboards (150 flex race plug boots).

On the ski length note I can fit my shorter skis, under 185s, diagonally on the bottom of the bed but anything longer you have to angle up at one end or the other.

    I can fit (3) pairs diagonal, all are 170 to 185cm (big K2 Hardside's).

WE ski every weekend hauling gear to our place, just cut (2) 2x6 to lay across as a platform, then use bungie cords to keep the skis from sliding around.

Other options: I have a Undercover, so things are protected, you could mount a rack on the top of the Undercover (Thule/Yakima), I've seen them mouted this way for bikes, seems to work great.
