Hey fellor's, What's the metal screen mounted after the paper intake filter and before the throttle body? and what do you clean it with?

    any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the charcoal filter that is right behind the air filter? If so, you don't clean it with anything, it's purpose is to catch fuel fumes (emissions sh-tuff). Some have removed it, but on the v6 whether it's in or out doesn't seem to matter much. A bit of searching will get you more info.

    None yet! It's new!
It's for keeping animals and small children from being sucked into the intake of your powerful, dangerous Toyota engine, when you blip the throttle.

That thing has a charcoal layer? I never realized it...

It can't possibly hold much fuel vapor, but then I guess they're chasing tinier and tinier improvements now to get EPA approvals. And we pay through the nose for it.

Yeah, I wouldn't spray it with MAF cleaner if that's the case..

MY understanding is that it's just there to catch any fumes that come back up after the engine is shut down, so yeah, not much use it seems. Normally I'd let a thread like this follow it's course but the "spray it with MAF cleaner" thing kinda got my attention :D

does the charcoal filter provide any sort of additional protection from dust/small particles getting past the air filter itself? I have an AFE Pro Dry filter in my tacoma. If it doesn't cause any harm I'd like to take the dang thing out...
