Get a Warn M8000 and a snatch block and you will have all the pulling power you could ever need.

But I have a standard xrc8. Works awesome. Will order a snatch block for those extra sticky situations...or for Ferds on 37's :p

    You are a wise man.

The snatch block will also come in handy if you need to pull somebody out at a wierd angle or from a diffent direction.

I have heard good reviews on the new X2O smittybuilt winches since now the whole unit is totally sumbmersible that is the route I am going to go with my new Elite bumper. They even offer it in a comp series 8k and 10k with synthetic line.

IMO it's hard to beat the price of a Smittybuilt winch especially coming with a synthetic line however every Smittybuilt winch I see is always rusting.

I do plan on eventfully upgrading the cable in my M8000 to a synthetic line but have just not had the need as of yet.

Ultimately I bought a Warn because I have no doubt that when I need it to work it will. Not that other winches won't but Warn winches undoubtedly have survived the test of time.

I am going to get a Ramsey Rep 9.5e when it comes time. I was going to get a Warn, but dont like how they claim that they still make their winches in the US when asked, but don't elicit where their stuff is made on their website (kinda fishy IMO). I have a buddy was bought warn a while back and was taken aback that almost everything in the box was labeled "made in china" except the winch itself.

Ramsey elicits that their winches are made in the USA. And they offer the same warranty as Warn. the 9.5e can also be had for around $600, and for a 9500lbs winch is a good deal IMO..

But the smitty built is made in china. Buying American made is important to me, especially on such a large investment like a winch. The extra 125-150 dollars is worth it IMO knowing that an American put it together and not a 6 year old chinese kid making 2 cents an hour.

thats respectable...I would just rather wait a few weeks and a couple paychecks and save up the extra little bit for what I really want.

And I wouldn't consider a $600 ramsey "top of the line" when warn and ramsey have 8000-9000lbs winches that range anywhere from $900-$1400. The ramsey REP series is their budget line.

Ramsey also has a Rep 8000e that retails for right around $450, and its still made in the USA.

ok i have a legit question here i think.

i have researched this and still do not have a clear answer on the matter. i'm running the deluxe bull bar from arb i love it and want to throw a winch in there. i was looking at either the m8000 warn which apparently bolts right up but, has the steel line and a giant roller fairlead lol.

the other choice i was considering was the smitty built XRC8 with synthetic line i like the looks and low profile nature of the hawse style fairlead the best plus the slightly lighter weight of the synthetic line as well plus it's a smoking deal. i plan on relocating the solenoid to the engine bay and siliconing the hell out of it to seal everything.

the issue is the hawse style fairlead is not designed to work with arb bull bars though.
i called arb and there suggestion was if i wanted to go with synthetic line was to run derlin rollers on the warn or smitty built fairlead. or sleeoffroad.com apparently makes a hawse style fairlead that is compatible with the arb.

i'm lost though because i don't know what roller style fairlead will bolt up to both the arb and the smitty built and what derlin rollers to get for said fairlead lol.

also what model hawse fairlead will work with the smitty built and the arb, and i was wondering whether viking made anyhting that would work as well?

sorry for the wall of text but, searching this on tw has not yielded any real answers.

    thanks in advance.
