ive always calculated 285/75/16 as 32.8 in. and a 305/75/16 as 34 in.

the first number is the width in mm. so ur right on 285 being narrower however a 285 is about 11.2 inches wide, a 305 is almost 12 inches wide.

the second number is sidewall ratio aspect

so for example:
The 285 indicates this tire is 285 millimeters across from the widest point of its outer sidewall to the widest point of its inner sidewall when mounted and measured on a specified width wheel. This measurement is also referred to as the tire's section width. Because many people think of measurements in inches, the 285mm can be converted to inches by dividing the section width in millimeters by 25.4 (the number of millimeters per inch).

285mm / 25.4 = 11.2"
Sidewall Aspect Ratio

Typically following the three digits identifying the tire's Section Width in millimeters is a two-digit number that identifies the tire's profile or aspect ratio.

285/75/16

The 75 indicates that this tire size's sidewall height (from rim to tread) is 75% of its section width. The measurement is the tire's section height, and also referred to as the tire's series, profile or aspect ratio. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall; the lower the number, the lower the sidewall. We know that this tire size's section width is 285mm and that its section height is 75% of 285mm. By converting the 285mm to inches (285 / 25.4 = 11.2") and multiplying it by 75% (.75) we confirm that this tire size results in a tire section height of 8.4". If this tire were a 305/75/16 size, our calculation would confirm that the size would result in a section height of 9", approximately a 0.6-inch taller sidewall.

so now, to get a full size of a tire from ground to top, u would have to take the size of the rim, in this case 16 inches add that to ur tire section height of 8.4 for the 285. before u add this, u need to multiply the 8.4 by 2, since u have tire at the top and below. sooo for all this, u have 285/25.4 * .75 * 2 + 16 = 32.83" tire. do the same for 305, you get 305/25.4*.75*2+16= 34.01" tire

i say its more of a change in priorities. Going out isnt as a high of a priority once you have a family. Your not living for just you anymore.

Being married doesnt keep you from going out or buying stuff, kids will do that, but for me, its worth it.

I was looking into some steelies from wheelers but doubt I could get much for my wheels since I put them through hell at Ure on the rocks.

 

No ABS mod... And once I got rolliing it came back on. If I turn the truck off.. restart it... It's gone till I roll a minute or two. I'll check the fluid when I get home. A bit unnerving since I'll have my 2 adult daughters and grandson with me on this trip.
