2010 Taco attempted theft - how to stop thieves?

Intersesting simple little trick I picked up years ago to avoid them unscrewing your outdoor perimeter lighting just slather them with vaseline, makes it very difficult to unscrew. Good luck.

I had a buddy who had some sort of ECU chip that controlled the fuel lines. I guess that doesn't stop the tow truck...

I didn't think theft happens in Canada.

Yes, the truck was found in Belgium. It is common here in Montreal for thieves to ship high end vehicles to Europe and Africa thru the port.

It is said that organized crime is firmly in control of the port.

You can do small things to deter the average thief, but if a professional thief wants your car they're going to get it. Like the guy said above, just make sure that you have good insurance.

 

This and that's it. There's nothing you can really do. If they want it, they'll take it. Afterall, it's only a Tacoma and not a '63 Split Window vette that'll be close to impossible to rePlace.

 

It sure does, it was one of the first things I had put in once I built an overland vehicle for professional use. I have nearly 60K invested in my rig, would not think of not having a Ravelco, and I live in a place that is virtually crime-free.

 

Its a sad fact but if they really want it, their going to take it no matter what you do to try to beat this.

Best just to be cautious where you park, the surroundings, get a alarm cause that will "help" lesson the chance or get a brake lock, but like i mentioned those will not %100 prevent theft but it would make thieves think twice

 

Post 70 mentioned my solution. Alarms don't stop them...too easy to find and clip the wires. Siren takes one clip and starter immobilizer a jumper wire around it...all under the dash. Tracker...fine if it was towed and still in Lojack range or cell service is available. Hope the battery doesn't die, get removed or antenna busted.

Went with Ravelco. No fees, batteries, or wires under the dash. The lawman said it...check it out, it works for drive away attempts. If they tow it, I don't want it back so I'll save the tracker feature money for something else.
