Do ARB Lockers Need Constant Air Pressure?

    I am looking at an ARB locker for my 2nd gen rear. I am wondering, in the interest of saving money, time, and complexity, does the locker need a constant air supply/pressure? Would a pulse of air work to lock it? Then release the pressure to unlock it?

    I was thinking maybe a little air tank or CO2 tire inflator could take the place of the compressor. I don't rock crawl, but lots of mud and snow. So, I would not need to lock/unlock it many times.

    Two problems:
    1) IIRC it takes in the neighborhood ot 90-100 psi to lock it...so a little CO2 inflator isn't going to do the trick.
    2) And that pressure does need to be constant to hold the gear in place....The small tank might work- but you have to pressurize it and keep it pressurized for just in case....Which is what the OBA set ups are for.

    A few bolts are different.
    Get the mini compressor. It about $150 I think

    Wife rolled it 3x mod...
    it needs the pressure to hold the locker in place, so yes... and once you purge the line it will disengage, but i am sure you can rig up a short line to where ever you want the fill line so that it is somewhat easy to get to and then just put a pressure release valve on it.

    Its alot like Scotts (^) blow-up doll. Initially you might get it to work but after repeated use without some way of re-pressurizing it, it just wont work anymore.

    In the interest of time, money, and complexity, this is the easiest solution. The locker comes with a wiring harness that will work " out of the box" with an ARB compressor.

    You can save some money by rigging up something else, but it'll take more time and be more complex to set up.

    Just get on board air. $850 locker, what is a few more bux to make it work.

    I would get the 2nd ARB compressor though...I mean what's the point of having a compressor on board if it doesn't also inflate the tyres? That's worth the $100 difference IMHO (150 up to 250).
