Based off of the link PSU provided, I think this guy has 3.73 installed. The final gear ratio is 2.6 which is based on transmision and axel to determine final gear ratio.

yeah it feels like my tranny thinks im going as fast as my speedo reads, likw when my spedo reads 60 im only doing 40 but my throttle positions and rpm feel like what it should be at for 60. but when i actually am doing 60 the spedo says 80 and i feel like im way to far down on the pedal. and it does seem to go through the gears faster, iv always thought that. when ever im entering the freeway it always shifts to early and i than have to press the pedal even more to continue accelerating and than it will shift again to early and the same cycle continues up until im up to speed. than god forbid i have to slow down for any reason because accelerating again to get back up to speed is hard. i cant even pass a mini van full of kids unless i start way back and build up my speed. iv always felt that the engine is doing more work for the speed im going than it needs to be. and as far as my ASE certified Buddy says is that your computer gets signals from various parts of the truck to send a signal to the tranny. so maybe since im not running huge tires that this truck used to have that its thinking im doing 50 when in reality im only doing 70 so my tranny is acting on the premise that i am up to speed when in reality i am not. and bigger tires cover more ground so i honestly should be going faster if im correct in my thinking that my gearing is 5.29 and there used to be massive tires on it.

    thats what im thinking

because im not into spending the money on 35inch tires plus i just bought new wheels and tires already and i do have a new axle in my yard im prepping to swap with that has 4:10's and an e-locker:D

although i dont ever remember seeing a difference in shift points when in wot...

Yeah I'll definitely let you guys know the difference in the swap of the rear end with 410 gears. I really hope that's it. If not I'll check timing and cats.. And that's all I can think of.

I don't even really understand what any of this mean. But what I'm thinking is what does the transmission ratio have to do with me turning my wheels or drive shaft? I could understand it effecting if I was calculating through engine crankshaft rotations.

By the time you get this all figured out you will understand your rear end and their workings better than most. lol.

Nothing. Maybe he figured you'd popped out a spark plug and were watching the piston rise and fall as you rotate the tire.

Sorry at least you explained how it's calculated.

My sarcasm was more for the guy who first introduced a final drive ratio number to the thread, which you agree is tangential to the discussion at hand.

Yeah, I ordered the gears, the ARB locker, and the "minor" rebuild kit from ECGS. I emailed them just before ordering to make sure I had the right part numbers.

Folks say the 4.88 isn't as strong as the 4.56 because the smaller pinion with only 9 teeth, but the flip side of that argument is that the 4 banger doesn't have as much rorque to force a breakage, either.

what size tires are you guys running? just curious if the 4:10's are gonna give me different issues with my 31's

i have a 295/70/17 i believe that calculates out to be like 33 3/4 inches. or something very close.

the 2nd gen regular cabs comes with a 4:11 gear ratio and i feel the need to re gear i def lost some pep lol. when i picked my truck up at the dealer new i had them put on a set of 265 duratracs and they had the truck feeling much more peppy these 295's have all but, killed it lol.

if you re gear watch what your doing because if you have like 285's or larger 4:10's are going to put you in the same ball park i'm in now and thats not good either. lol if you feel like you don't have much torque now just wait lol.

if moose is saying that you have a certain gear ratio and he seemed to sound pretty confident about it as well i would use that as a starting point and go from there 4:10 is a big drop from what you have now maybe split the difference is where i would be looking .

thats true also i would think that in order to break a set of hd gears like that you would have to be engaging in some pretty hardcore stuff.

how is yours on the highway if you cruise at 70mph where are the rpm's at?

also i would imagine that the 4.88 would make a pretty big improvement in low end for off road type terrain and getting around town right?
