Hey guys, I need some of your thoughts.

I drive an 03 access cab pre runner I got new that has 82k on it. I like the truck but now I have a 4 year old and it's a bit cramped for him. I also want to get a small camper and start seeing more of the country....how do they hold up to towing 3,000 / 4,000 lb across country??..i know a taco is not the best county touring truck but I do like them and I can't get a full size truck in my garage.....

Is the newer taco that much better than my 03??

    Thanks for your thoughts/input

Go look at one at the dealer :D

If you don't lift it or put big tires on it (without regearing) towing will be a breeze. I tow my dads boat (5200lbs 25ft long) granted not terribly long but there have been many people on here that tow that much for long distances. Just need a trailer brake controller.

At least wait until Jan 12 for the unveil, then decide.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to wait a bit and see if you like the 2016 3rd generation trucks. They are debuting the truck at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

Once the 3rd generation trucks come out you may be able to snag a 2015 for even cheaper anyway. I use my 2013 DCLB for towing a 23 foot travel trailer and it does fine. Gas mileage is horrible but that's going to happen with any truck towing 5000 lbs.

It seems only some but very vocal small group of those who already have a 2nd gen who are intimidated by new gen and too proud to say anything positive will tell you to join their 2nd Gen group.

Listen to your brain and wait for the 3rd gen.

I think realistically a $2000 jump across the model range.

I highly doubt they will release pricing info at the unveiling.

Having tested both the 2015 Tacoma and GMC Canyon side by side, I'd take the Canyon. Quieter, with more overall legroom. We're a tall family. Lots of power, and a smooth ride.

That said, if the Tacoma had 3 more inches of legroom, I'd have one in my driveway already.

If you're not in a hurry, wait and see what's coming in January. I just bought a 2015 tacoma and love it. Toyota makes great products, I'm sure the new taco will be even better. I couldn't wait till the fall, pay the premium, and be the guinea pig finding all the new bugs...

I just bought a 2015 the other day. . . I figured that the current version has been out there for 10 yrs and many issues and bugs have been worked out of it. You would think anyway. I was hesitant to try a brand new redesign model and guessed that Toyota will get radical with the new one, to try to compete. I'll bet it gets bigger which doesn't interest me and. I'd rather have the old proven one that everyone understands at least for now. Also, I like the current Tacoma a lot and found one that was perfectly what I wanted, so I decided against waiting. We'll see if that was smart or not! I'll probably like the 2016 better! OH WELL! Good luck.
