You're skewing your information based on the last few months which had very low gas prices. How about we look at some hard facts with years of averages, not 1 month.

In New England (which Maine falls in to) the average regular gas price averaging 2010-2014 (5 years) is $3.43 per gallon

In the same region diesel averaged $3.84 per gallon in that span.

And just for shits and grins, premium averaged $3.74.

Pretty good sample size there wouldn't you say. 84 cents - 43 cents = 41 cents, not $1.00.

    agreed...

...but everyone hears, "DIESEL", then their inner "BRO" takes over.... :headbang:

..."it's a DIESEL so it's gonna be soooo awesome" When they drive down the street they think people looking at them will be like, "OMG... he has a DIESEL":gossip:

...best yet is the people on forums doing the typical, "I TRY to impress people I don't know, with money I don't have"

Consumer Reports has the diesel F250 at 8.7 and the quarter in 16.8. Not quite as fast as a Sienna. ;)

They have the v6 taco at 7.9 and the quarter in 16.3 for reference.

I meant quicker than it's gas counterparts. The non-turbo isn't all that quick.

I like the sound of the V8 diesel, don't think I'd want to own one though.

As with any business, you can't make everybody happy.

People ask me to make different stuff all the time, but you can only accommodate the things that are right for your business.

Some people get totally bent out of shape when you won't make YOUR product the way that THEY want.

Toyota doesn't feel a diesel would benefit THEIR business. End of story.

i find it funny that a lot complain that its cost $1 more for diesel gas. Well, if its a $1 more, then stick to the standard Tacoma motor. That's why there are options. If YOU don't want one... move along. There are plenty of others interested in having this type of motor.

Agreed. but IMO, I think Toyota would gain a lot of business if they did decide to add a diesel motor (at least to the awful MPG of the Tundras).

well obviously nothing is there for the tacoma... The cummins diesel motor does however exist, and it would be nice to have that in the Tundra. Nissan finally got on board with that.

My point is, you don't know what you're wishing for... just a "diesel"

...that doesn't mean it will be a Cummins and/or even a good motor/powertrain

The 2016 Tacoma is getting a "new" engine, "new" trans, "new" running gear. Has all this been tested? Why is everyone so sure it's going to be bulletproof, reliable, and without issues? Have you noticed the trend of Toyota reliability slipping? Probably not because most of you guys are looking at life through Toyota fanboy glasses.

The GM twin diesel Duramax I-4 is actually being tested in real world operation overseas.

Im no expert on the Cummins I-4 going in the Frontier but its probably been out a while. I know an equipment tuned I-4 Japan made turbo diesel Cummins is in the Vermeer BC1000XL.

I bring up the GM twins diesels because there's always chatter about new technology and unproven this and that, the gm diesels will fail for this reason, blah blah blah. But when Toyota introduces something brand new and unproven, not a peep from anyone.

If you're not a Toyota fan boy, go elsewhere to get your diesel mid-size truck...

No thanks, I think I'll stay.

I meant tested for more than a week in a single truck.

Yup, they only tested a week and said good enough.

The JD Power dependability study just came out. Lexus 1st, Toyota 3rd. Toyota has a history of doing a good job reliability wise. Others have closed the gap somewhat, but Toyota is the standard. I'm certain that desire to maintain the quality standard will continue. They can't afford to get lax now.

Actually the manufacturing of the batteries for these hybrid vehicles is very low on the pollution scale. As for disposal, they are not disposed of, they are recycled, so no pollution there, other than the plant the does the recycling. And those plants have a very low pollution output as well.

And you get this opinion based on what? I mean sure, a lot of guys on here are asking for a diesel option, but when you consider a cost of at LEAST $20 million for the design, testing, and production setup for a diesel option, do you really think that the long term would bring about the real money? Go to all of the diesel forums. You don't see them asking for their beloved diesels in a mid-sized truck. I agree with Toyota here, I don't see enough of a demand to warrant the cost of producing a diesel. Neither do they evidently, and THEY are the ones who have the facts and conduct the surveys across the marketplace. I would think they know what they are talking about.
