I currently drive a 2009 access cab 2.7 2wd. It's a great truck and I love it but in the interest of lowering the household bills I thought of this idea. I found a 2002 regular cab auto 2.4 2wd with 110K miles for 5K dollars. I am thinking of swapping the 2009 in for the 2002. 110K sounds like alot of miles, but this is a Yota so......

Any problems I should look for if I do go look at this truck? Are the autos reliable??? I wanna lower my bills not create a money pit of repairs. Opinions??

As long as you have a mechanic check it out, I would say go for it. No truck is any good if you don't have money to fill it up, or pay your bills for that matter. :)

Get a carfax report and make sure it has all the necessary "high mileage" things taken care of.

The auto tranny is the one thing I would be nervous about.

I had a 99 Extended Cab 2.4L Automatic. It was a reliable truck for 128K miles, but it was kinda' slow and didn't get all that great of gas mileage 'cause I had to stomp on the gas to keep up with traffic. It was totaled or I would have kept it another ten years anyway.

I drove a truck identical to mine but in an auto... worlds of difference. My 2.4 with the 5-speed is... dare I say it... bordering on being quick!

My 2.7 feels pretty quick to me when it pulls in 2nd and 3rd gear.
