lift, big boy tires, deck plate, no more sway bar, painted stuff
I stopped reading early, but according to the UG we average 22.5 mpg. deckplate, iridiums, 31 bfg at, and now sliders that weigh about 30-40 pounds each

edit and we drive kinda hard and wheel a lot. it's pretty open around here though, rarely get below 40

it depends on the gas too. "Real" unleaded gasoline yields better than gas with ethanol.

I never would have thought it, but my V6 auto access cab averages higher than a lot of the 4cyls. There seems to be no benefit to getting a 4 other than the initial cost.

I4 has less maintenance required (and at longer intervals) and therefore costs less in the long run too. Plus the I4 is legendary for its damn near bulletproof design. The Toyota V6 has proved itself too, but the inherent simplicity and its 1/3 less moving parts of the I4 makes it a statistically more durable design as well.

Plus, if you are getting better mpg than most 2.7s then you are the exception... the vast majority of 4.0s will get a few mpg fewer than the typical 2.7... so count yourself lucky. For the vast majority then, the lower purchase cost, combined with the lower overall maintenance cost combined with the lower fuel cost due to better mpg means the 2.7 I4 is significantly cheaper in the long run!!!

But the 2.7 definitely does sacrifice power and towing capability when compared to the 4.0... so if you have to have that power and need that towing, then the 4.0 is the better choice. But for a person who doesn't... why spend the extra $$$ on the 4.0?

Me personally, I am looking for ultra long term reliability and durability with maximum mpg for a minimum of investment... the 2.7 I4 then is the logical choice for me. And when the 2012s come out (assuming the engines are the same) I will be picking myself up a 2.7 4x4 Access Cab.

MPG has a lot of variables, but you would certainly get better MPG with an I4 model vs your V6 doing identical driving.

'08 regular cab w/265 AT tires here. I have had two fillups so far: 1) 19.8 MPG all stop and go city driving with A/C on for the entire tank, and 2) 22.7 MPG all Interstate and A/C running.

Not too shabby for a 4WD pickup IMHO.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
My best was 25 something and worst was 21. I normally get around 23 to 24. Some days I just let it fly. It's only gas.

I've got a 2.7 RC 4X4 Manual.......I only have about 1400 miles on it so far but the MPG just bounces all over the place. I had one tank were I got 22 but most are only around 16-17. I don't drive fast at all however all my drives are very short distances because I only live like 2 miles from work so I guess that plays a role in the low MPG.

4x4 Access cab 5 speed. Over the last 60 or so fill ups I've averaged just under 21 mpg. My best mileage was on a highway trip at 23.3, my worst mileage was during a snowy week where 4 wheel drive was used quite a bit and I got 18.8 mpg.

For a while I was getting 21ish, but then I started shifting quicker and cruising in lower rpms. I'll cruise in 4th at 30mph and 5th at 40mph. That bumped it up to 23. Also, I don't think I went over 60mph.
