My 2010 5 speed is making a noise when I start it and then it stops. Then I turn truck off and start it again and it doesn't make the noise. Does anyone know what this might be?

Gotta be more specific, where's it coming from, is it a knocking noise, etc.

Can you be a little more specific on describing the noise? Grinding? Chirping? Whining? Electric Motor type noise?

When exactly do you hear it? When you put it in gear and start to move? Or immediately upon starting the engine?

It sounds sort of a grinding sound I noticed it a couple days ago. And it only lasts for about a second or to then it stops. But it seems to only do it when it hasn't been started to a while. Becuz the last time it happened as soon as it made the noise I turned the truck off I immediately started it back up and it didn't make the noise.

do you have a chance to put it in gear before it makes the noise?

    is your ac on?

It could be the AC making a clunk. I dunno im just making a guess, if so its completely normal.

If the vehicle is in gear and clutch engaged, and you are slowly movin forward, it could be the ABS initializing.

Can some of you others jump in here with a yea or nay on that?

yea, that's why i asked about being in gear, that would be the ABS testing itself...but from the sounds of it, it's happening sooner than that

No. The truck is in nuetral then I push the clutch start button then turn key and as soon az I do that it makes the noise. And I don't have the a/c either.

Take it to the dealer and have them explain it or check it out.

I sometimes get the same noise. I thought it was the A/C but noticed it does it when the A/C is turned off lately???....Just another bump, creak and grind to learn to live with:)

some of this, a little of that
Remember that if your vent selector is set to defrost then it is the same as the a/c being on in it will run the pump, unless you mod it.

I think the noise was coming from me having the vent selector set on defrost. And I have taken off defrost when truck is off and it is not making the noise now. Thx for the help.

Mine makes this noise when the AC is turned on after being parked for a few days. Maybe rusty pulley?? I park mine outside. It can be pretty loud, sounds terrible.

I hear the sme noise in mines, only when I first start it and after it's been sitting awhile. But like some of the replies have stated, I think it's probably the ac/heat vent selector. This is where the noise seems to come from as I listen.

Mine after sitting at least two days, makes a "pop & click" out of the exhaust, battery seems weak also at that time. 2009 17,000 miles... but after about 20 seconds, back to normal..(everything turned off on the panel)
