Recommendations/advice on O2 sensor

I have an 08 Tacoma (27K miles), 2WD, 4 cylinder with a bad front O2 sensor. My mechanic recommended one for $233.00...! Maybe this is a reasonable price, because I'm having a hard time finding a better deal, but was hoping someone would be able to point me in a better direction (read: cheaper!)

Any suggestions out there? I'd REALLY appreciate the help. I'm a bit of an automotive idiot, so the more info the better.

Thanks in advance.

thats too much for just a sensor should be about 100-180 bucks. check this site out, I imagine it would be the same for a 1st gen 2.7 as well.

EDIT: maybe a little more, Ive only had to deal with rear sensors heres one double check for your truck though

The upstream sensor is more expensive, not sure why. I might pay that for the part and labor, but Denso ($130) and Bosch ($160) upstream O2 sensors are cheaper on RockAuto.com.

Thanks for the help.

The part is ~230 and the labor is ~40, so the total is ~270.

I wonder if I can buy the part elsewhere, like RockAuto.com and just pay for the labor of installing it?

Depends on the mechanic. Most mechanics I've dealt with don't like to do that. You could bring in a faulty or incorrect part and then try to blame them for the "problem" afterwards.
