Why do 2.7's idle at like 1600 rpm when you first start them?

    Whenever I am starting cold my 2.7 idles at roughly 1600 rpm for like 20-30 seconds then slowly drops. I am assuming it has to do with warming the engine up, but I thought you didnt really need to let modern engines warm up.

    It helps oil pressure build more rapidly.
