Put in 5.5 qts of Mobil 1 0w-20 last fill and it is about 1/4" above the full mark 2000 miles later. But I do drain my oil parked slighty uphill and on ramps. Maybe this makes a difference.

Gelo most likely does everything by the book. Either the dipstick has been wrong for 8 years, or the book is wrong. If you fill it to the upper mark and it blows because of being a half qt low its Toyota's problem, because I wont buy another one.

    Yup.

And while vehicles have been marketed (and subsequently recalled) with inaccurate dipsticks, it is far more common for something to be lost in the "translation" from metric to Imperial/US when the manuals are translated from Japanese to English.

I've got a shop manual for my Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 that lists 56ft/lbs for the fork pinch bolts. They are 6mm fasteners.
The Newton/Meter spec is correct, but in the translation, they indicated ft/lbs when it should have been 56 INCH/pounds!

I've found a few places where that was done, so if a spec doesn't sound right for a fastener, I go with the metric spec.

6.1 Qts. is for a completely dry motor. Obviously you cannot drain every last drop of oil from the motor when doing a standard oil change. This is where the difference is. End of discussion.

It truly does not matter where the dipstick reads....put in 5-6 qts. of oil and you're good to go. 6.1 qts will fill a completely dry motor...5.5 qts. is plenty for a standard oil change.

They just might to make sure a motor does not run low by 5K, if a engine should use some oil during breakin. Not every engine is perfect.

I have Mobil 1 in my Taco. It is the 0w-20 AFE. It runs good and I think it does help with fuel mileage a bit, .5 to 1 MPG would be my guess.

I have run other oils. As long as they are SN/GF-5 rated, and changed every 5-10K your engine will last much longer than the rest of the truck.

3 out of the my next 4 changes are going to be Valvoline Conventional 5w-20. Picked up 16 qt for $21.50 on Amazon about a year ago. It will get changed every 5K along with a medium grade filter. I have another fill of the Mobil 1 but I'll save it for a winter oil change.

I have five free oil change cupons and a 36000 mile warranty for free if anyone knows how to use them. I voided the warranty at first oil change I used a fram oil filter and not toyota parts from the stealership. I dont want a 18 year old kid learing how to change oil on my truck. Guess who they always put on the grease monkey rack. Avoid the stealership and warranties at all cost. I tried to sell them my warranty when I bought the truck new for 100.00 they refused so I gave it to em. Guess you can tell i hate car dealers and warranties.

You did not void your factory warranty by doing the work yourself.
That is a violation of Magnusson-Moss, and if the dealer told you that, get it on a recording and take it to your state Attorney General.
The law says that if the manufacturer requires factory parts and dealer labor, those things must be provided at no charge.
Your oil change coupons were not "free"... you paid for them in the price of the truck.

You CAN void an extended warranty. Those should not even be called "warranties" because they are actually service contracts. Depending on what's in the fine print, they can require anything.

IF you have an extended warranty, the dealership may be legally obligated to buy-back the unused portion. Depending on the value, it may or may not be worth contacting an attorney... but it's always worth it to threaten.
